About the Author
Adele Rogers Recklies has had a career that encompasses both beads and fiber as well as academic work and creative play. Before working as a costume maker for professional theater, she earned a B.A.and M.A. from Kent State University and a Ph.D. in theater from The Ohio State Univeristy. After teaching in a small college and working for two different costume shops in New York City, Dr. Recklies opened her own business in 1987 to specialize in theatrical knitting, crochet, and related crafts.
Dr. Recklies' embroidery work can be seen in the recent movie Memoirs of a Geisha. Her knitted costumes have been worn in other movies such as Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Big Fish and Stepmom as well as Broadway shows such as CATS and the recent revival of Company.
Some of her beadwork was included in 500 Beaded Objects: New Dimensions in Contemporary Beadwork and exhibited at Bead International 2006 at The Dairy Barn Arts Center as well as two group shows at the Nihonbashi Takashimaya, Tokyo, Japan in 2003 and 2004.
