3.0 out of 5 stars great for beginners, March 16, 2010

If you've just started jewelry-making and need instructions and inspiration, this is the book for you. If you want to learn how to use budget-friendly and available tools and materials from national-chain craft supply stores, this is the book for you. The author gets high marks for heart-felt enthusiasm. I'm glad she has fun with jewelry and wants others to have fun too.

The lower rating is for originality and creativity. I've seen these designs in magazines and books and even at the jewelry counter, well before I started beading myself. So in the interest of my wallet, I'm returning this book to buy more beads :) But like I said above, this book would be really great for the beginner. Unfortunately there isn't a way to split the rating...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bead in Time, January 10, 2010

What a beautiful book. The concept of being able to create a piece of jewelry that reflects something from your life is a totally new idea in beading for me. I loved the dandelion piece and may even try it. A cool one to wear in the spring and summer. The whimsical gnomes are so cute. I really liked all the jewelry and cant wait to get started making some of them. Her instructions are without a doubt the easiest to understand of any I have seen. I just saw again the colored pencil pendant and that may have to be my first attempt. Lisa is so creative, and I also hope to make something that will mirror my life. Actually I may have to do the Caribbean Cruise bracelet and hope to go one one soon. What a wonderful, new concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, I really enjoyed it!, January 10, 2010
This review is from: A Bead in Time: 35 Jewelry Projects Inspired by Slices of Life (Paperback)
I've been beading as a hobby for a little more than five years. I got my book a few days ago and I really am looking forward to trying out some of the projects in this book. The author takes her inspiration from bits of every day life and applies those "inspirations" into creating unique jewelry. I really liked the "dandelion" bracelet project as its a creative way to use seed beads and re-purposing a brooch form and also the "Summer Salad" project. There are lots of good ideas in this one! I also like the book because it has a variety of techniques for many different experience levels. Its very inspirational and creative types will look at everyday objects in new ways, not only for ways to use those objects, but to create projects using their impressions of things and experiences as a motivation.
