Jean Campbell is an artist, writer, and teacher whose specialty is beading. She has written and edited more than 40 books and is the founding editor of Beadwork magazine. Jean currently writes a popular weekly blog on BeadingDaily.com. She has appeared on the DIY Jewelry Making show, The Shay Pendray Show, and PBS' Beads, Baubles, and Jewels where she gives how-to instructions, provides inspiration, and lends crafting advice. Jean is a certified PMC instructor and teaches off-loom beading and metal clay workshops throughout the United States. She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her family and a whole lot of beads. If you have an item that needs a handle to hold it, the pattern is in this book. If it is not, then with imagination, the starting point is in this book. If the item is weighty, a macrame strap may be the answer. Do you need leashes for your glasses? There are several patterns that will suffice. There are loomed and off loom straps as well as one that is made with a spool-knitter. If you have never beaded before, some of the straps require practice before starting, but many are able to be compleated on the first try. The diagrams could have been clearer, but they will suffice. All one needs is a bead supplier for the seed beads and thread and you're ready to give it a go.

I love love love chain stitches and the best thing about this book is the variety of techniques and styles. Everything from the simple to the complex is represented here.

All the basics are covered like daisy chains and herringbone ropes and a few beauties you just wont see other places like Diane Fitzgeralds Caduceus Chain which is well worth the purchase of the book alone in my opinion.

The fringe designs are a nice bonus to help spur some inspiration and cover all the basic fringe designs in one place as well.

Overall if you are looking for a quick reference guide to chains and fringes to work into a project or use alone this is a great addition to your beading library. I use it a lot. This booklet is a great resource when you just dont know what you want to do. LOL

this book has patterns for beaded fringe, straps and chains. There are a couple of useful patterns, the best one being Diane Fitzgerald's "Caduceus" chain, aka figure 8 chain. A lot of the other patterns are VERY basic. If you've been beading for a while then you probably already know most of them.
