Review

Beaded items abound in the shops today, on photo frames, cushions, table mats, napkin rings. They are the current trend in home decoration. But they can easily be made yourself, at home. Once you have mastered the techniques you will find it easy to add your own homemade beaded touch to your rooms, individual to you. Add an instant bit of glamour to your home with beads: sparkly, wooden, ethnic, round, baton-shaped, leaf-shaped, beads come in an infinite variety of shapes and forms ready for you to create your own individual pieces. Inspiration abounds in this pretty book. Whether you like girly crystals, African native designs, contemporary or traditional ideas, they are all featured with clear, concise instructions. An informative introduction explains techniques, tools and design strategies. The numerous different threads and needles involved are gone through in detail, ensuring the correct materials are used for each project. From using beads wrapped in wire to embellish cutlery and candlesticks to stitching beads onto table runners, pillows, curtains and fragrant sachets to bead boxes, fringes, wind-chimes and bottle stoppers, all will inspire the reader to make these pretty, glittery objects and develop their own imagination to create personally designed items for themselves and friends alike. Be it girly, retro or elegant, beads open up a whole new world in interior design and home furnishing. So get out your beads and decorate your home with this excellent, instructive guide to beadwork. - Lucy Watson

5.0 out of 5 stars GORGEOUS! An extraordinary book full of many great projects, January 8, 2002

I *LOVE* this book! It is filled with innumerable gorgeous innovative projects which are both spectacular as they are, and easily modified to suit your own style/tastes. The exceptionally wide range of projects includes everything from exquisite beaded bottle tops and bottle people to a beaded abacus and beaded napkin rings. There is truly something for all styles and tastes. The projects are gorgeous in themselves, and will also spark your own creativity. I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Here a bead, there a bead, EVERYWHERE, September 17, 2004

It's not necessary for a book like this to start with bead types (bone, coral, African trade). Most who would pick up a book on decorating with beads, like me, probably have drawers full of them and just want to get them out where we can see them. I also don't need to know what tools I'll need to fill my entire house with beaded décor, so just rip out the beginning of the book and take me straight to ideas.

Kudos to the author: she's got wonderful ideas. There's beaded fringe on a window valance -- wow! Imagine the glitter in the sunlight! There are embellished gourds, drawer pulls, picture frames, bead thumbtacks, a table runner, stepping stones, and on and on. Katherine provides us with so many ideas, we could cover our entire abode with beads (not a bad idea!).

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice to Look At But....., June 9, 2003

Lots of good ideas and beautiful projects. However, instructions are terrible...it took us about 30 minutes just to figure out some of the instructions to one of the projects.

Definitely great for inspirations, but not a book for the novice.
