Book Description

August 1, 2006
Macramé. Just the word summons up images of hideous 1960s atrocities designed to hang plants. But what was good about macramé in the 1960s is still what’s good about macramé: It’s easy, it’s fun, everybody can do it. And now everybody can get great results, making gorgeous jewelry that’s sure to astonish anyone born before the Reagan era. Best-selling author Sherri Haab takes a completely fresh look at the craft, using fine cords and shimmering beads that are popular with today’s beadwork and jewelry designers. Clear illustrations show how to do 14 simple knotting techniques. Then it’s time to try 22 projects for bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, even a belt, a purse, and an iPod pouch--each one stylish, colorful, and easy to create. Beaded Macramé Jewelry is macramé for today!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Macramé styles: Great retro stuff October 29, 2006
Format:Paperback
I love this book; the instructions are was easy to follow, though you have to have some experience knotting friendship bracelets. The illustrations are also great and the earrings I made from the easiest instruction turned out great. If you are looking for something new to try in jewelry making this is the book to pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Macrame updated July 27, 2008
Format:Paperback
Sherri Haab's new book Beaded Macrame Jewelry: Stylish Designs, Exciting New Materials interested me from the start since I used to make a lot of jewelry using macrame. In fact, that is how I got started making ceramic beads. I couldn't find commercial beads large enough to fit the hemp cord I was using then. Well now things have changed a lot. There are many wonderful handmade beads on the market that have large holes and wonderful new cords and material to use with them. This book is focused on using many of the new large holed handmade beads. Although lampwork beads are usually featured, the new ceramic beads you can find on Etsy and Just Beads on the Internet would work equally as well. And you know I am biased on the subject of ceramic beads. The book shows you the basic Macrame knots in clear large illustrations and then goes on to introduce you to a number of attractive projects. I have been having a lot of fun with the Japanese Cord Bracelet. I was attracted to this project because I had some of this wonderful Japanese Noro cording on hand in several different colors. By the way this stuff is gorgeous. This technique is easily adapted to make a necklace as well.
There is another reason I love this book and that is the directions for making a very simple sliding closure that makes it possible to adjust the size of any bracelet or necklace. She gives you two versions of this very handy adjustable ending.
There are many attractive projects in the book which feature new cording and materials for macrame ranging from leather cord bracelets, macrame rings and earrings, to complex necklaces and even a purse using yarn and ribbon.

You may think of hippie or old-fashioned styles when you think 'macrame' but Sherri Haab demonstrates a vast difference with her modernized Beaded Macrame Jewelry, which goes beyond the usual hemp and wooden beads of the past to display macrame's contemporary possibilities. From bead-enhanced belts to intricate necklaces with plenty of detail, BEADED MACRAME JEWELRY shows you don't have to regulate macrame to the 1960s: any crafts library will welcome the different approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Mother's Macrame June 24, 2010
By K. Kuhn
Format:Paperback
I've been making hemp jewelry for years (self-taught) and am very picky when it comes to buying craft books. I pulled the trigger on Haab's Beaded Macrame Jewelry and am quite pleased. I've made several projects from this book and found the instructions detailed and easy to understand. Haab teaches a variety of techniques and knots and uses different cords like leather, silk and acrylic. The styles featured are up-to-date and can be changed according to taste; my creativity was spurred!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Hip! May 14, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm so glad I purchased Sherri Haab's book Beaded Macrame Jewelry. The stylish designs are what first attracted me to this book but what I got was so much more! The photographs that go with the step by step instructions for the different projects are clear and easy to understand, as are the written instructions. The diagrams of the various knots and techniques are very clear, making them easy to do when you try it yourself. I was able to look at one of the projects in the book, try it and finish it all within 20 minutes - and it looked as beautiful as the example! I truly liked the different materials that were used in the book as well because it showed how wonderful macrame can be with other materials besides just hemp/twine cording. And, jewelry isn't the only thing Sherri shares how to create in this book, either. There's step by step instructions for a belt, a purse, an ipod pouch and a watchband, too. Overall I think this book is one of my favorites for jewelry making because of the various knotting techniques and different designs that are shown and because of the way they are represented in the book and how easy they are to understand and create on my own. Great book - I've already recommended it to some of my beading and jewelry making friends!
