This is a 24-page booklet with 12 patterns for knitted, beaded covers for 2-5/8" glass Christmas tree ornaments. For each ornament cover, the beads are pre-strung on yarn, then knitted in, according to row-by-row instructions that produce various beaded designs (e.g., lattice, windowpanes, Fleur de Lis, zig zag, Christian cross, diamonds, vertical stripes, hearts).

The covers are knit using double-pointed needles. When finished, they are slipped onto the ornaments and drawn snug around the glass necks. When the ornaments' metal caps are replaced, they hide the covers' drawstring closings. The patterns are simple, and easy to follow. Even a brand-new knitter should be able to make these ornaments, because they require only knitting, purling, and simple knitted increases. There are brief, but clear, instructions on how to use double-pointed needles.

Creative knitters can no doubt create gorgeous tree ornaments by using designer yarns and varying the bead and yarn colors. However, I found the photographs of the ornaments in the booklet to be rather uninspiring, and for that reason I rate the booklet at 3 stars ("It's okay"). One recent book with patterns for Christmas ornaments, which will probably interest moderately experienced and experienced knitters, is 55 Christmas Balls to Knit (charted designs for knitted, stuffed Christmas tree ornaments).

I have never added beads to any of my knitted projects but have always wanted to try it. I think these ornaments are an excellent way to start. I haven't actually knit any yet but I can't wait to start. Right now I have other projects on the go for Christmas that take top priority but will start these for next year after everything else is done. I bought glass balls but I think I will try to get some plastic balls instead. I would hate to put that much work into a project and have the glass ball break inside. I love the book and the patterns. They seem easy enough and I think they will make wonderful little gifts for friends and family. I would like to get the little gift boxes to put them in if they are not too costly. I have seen them at Pier One.
I would definitely recommend this book to anybody that would like to try their hand at bead knitting.

Great book for frustrated knitters who have run out of ideas to keep their fingers moving - and a different way to decorate for Christmas and make it oh so personal. Love this book and recommend it to knitters looking to get through those leftover yarns not big enough to anything larger than the ornaments in here.
