4.0 out of 5 stars so many beautiful ideas--and english text
i ordered this book simply because it was published by ondori. i have many of their books on other needlework and textile techniques and was curious about what they would do with beads.

what they do with beads is marvelous. whatever age or skill level, a beader is sure to find something (or, more accurately, several somethings) to make. there is a nice range of skill...

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star Designs with 2 Star Instructions
This book has lovely arty pictures of beautiful designs, but the photos are not always clear enough to make the design clear. The instructions are in the back of the book in tiny print and black and white graphs. In several cases the thread paths are hard to follow; in at least one diagram the arrows appear to show the thread running clockwise and counterclockwise...

i ordered this book simply because it was published by ondori. i have many of their books on other needlework and textile techniques and was curious about what they would do with beads.

what they do with beads is marvelous. whatever age or skill level, a beader is sure to find something (or, more accurately, several somethings) to make. there is a nice range of skill levels and there are designs which will appeal to children, teens, and adults.

there are bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces--any of which could be adapted to clothing embellishment or different beads. there are really clever methods of varying chains, etc. there are unusual color combinations.

there are written instructions and graphs. the graphs are very good. the only problem with the instructions is that the beads are identified by millimeter size (not as czech seed, or japanese seed or delica [which is actually a brand name])--but your local bead store should be able to help.

ordering this book this was a gamble that definitely paid off.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book!, August 29, 2004
This review is from: The Beaders Palette: Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets, Ensembles, Earrings and Straps (Paperback)
This book has amazing ideas and designs that are easy to follow. I am a self taught beader with no "real" skills. I was able to follow 90% of the patterns in this book no problem. I use all czech fire polish facteted beads, swarovski crystals, and japanese seed & bugle beads. This book is worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star Designs with 2 Star Instructions, December 8, 2003

This book has lovely arty pictures of beautiful designs, but the photos are not always clear enough to make the design clear. The instructions are in the back of the book in tiny print and black and white graphs. In several cases the thread paths are hard to follow; in at least one diagram the arrows appear to show the thread running clockwise and counterclockwise simultaneously. An experienced beader could probably work the patterns out, and many of the designs would be well worth the effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book for the somewhat experienced, August 14, 2003

I just received my copy of this book today. The designs they have in the book are simply breathtaking. Alot of crystal (my absolute favourite beads. However, this book is defiantely not for a beginning beader unless you are VERY good at following diagrams. They do give detailed instructions, but they are not in an easy step by step format. You will need to have some beading experience and a good idea of thread patterns before beginning most of the projects.

I am a beginning beader but I can't wait to give some of the designs a try. Absolutely STUNNNING Jewelry!

3.0 out of 5 stars Patterns aren't clear enough ...I lost interest, May 27, 2005

It does look like a great book...I'd love to make the items. But whoever wrote the instructions/patterns did not do a good job. I lost interest because it seemed more trouble then its worth. I've been beading for years and have MANY instruction & beading books. This one I would not recommend...especially for the beginner.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty pictures, but otherwise disappointing, July 20, 2005
By
This review is from: The Beaders Palette: Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets, Ensembles, Earrings and Straps (Paperback)
This book contains virtually nothing BUT pretty pictures. The captions for the pictures are minimalist, and there is no discussion at all of the considerations which went into the color selection and design of the pieces. If you are looking for "inspiration", this book may satisfy you. If you are looking for information, you will most likely be seriously disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing Project, March 17, 2007
This review is from: The Beaders Palette: Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets, Ensembles, Earrings and Straps (Paperback)
I received my book and immediately got some crystals to make one of the rings, which I could not believe that I was able to start and finish in an hour, even when it was my first time making this type of jewelry. Sometimes the instructions can be somewhat confusing. And I notice that the instructions for PROJECT # 8 are nowhere to be found in the book. Still a great book to get if you want to learn new ways of making great pieces of jewelry and ideas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, April 7, 2006

This review is from: The Beaders Palette: Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets, Ensembles, Earrings and Straps (Paperback)
This book has beautiful designs and ideas for your own jewelry creations. I have only tried one pattern so far, which was an easy one itself, with nice pictures to follow. The instructions can get a little confusing just by the way the designer states/words the directions. But overall I am satisfied with the book because I have the same taste in design.

If you are looking for a way or just to compare notes on how to make beaded jewelries this would be the right book. I have not spent much time in looking at it, since I had other books to study, too, but this book speaks technique that is easy to understand. So, try!

4.0 out of 5 stars Review for Ondori Beader's Palette, June 6, 2010

This book has lots of beautiful designs. I made several projects from the book and didn't really have any trouble following the instructions. This book was originally published in Japan, so the instructions are written in a way that's usually used in Japanese craft books. There is not a lot of text and a large portion of the instructions is a drawing showing you where to thread beads. Personally, I like instructions to be written this way, but if you are not used to it, then you might have a harder time following the instructions.
