Editorial Reviews

Review

"If you like Cindy Thomas Pankopf's projects in Bead & Button, you'll enjoy her book featuring jewelry made with metal rings and beads. Cindy's collection of 23 projects includes necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. Jump rings, decorative metal rings, and chain are paired with woven seed beads in this eclectic selection of pieces suitable for casual wear or a night out. Plus, she includes comprehensive background about the techniques, tools, and materials you need to complete the projects." - Bead & Button

“Clever combinations — elegant chain mail and colorful beadweaving merge to create a sophisticated new look in Beadmaille.” - Beadwork

"This book is so innovative and stunning, we were all in awe. Beadmaille begins with an extensive The Basics sections that covers information on bead weaving and chainmail, including elementary bead weaving stitches and how to make your own jump rings. This section alone would be valuable to any jewelry maker. The 25 projects in Beadmaille are each totally unique. The illustrations and instructions are clear and easy to follow. If you are looking to expand your bead weaving, chainmail skills, or looking to try something new, this is a great book for you!" - Beadphoria

“I have never seen anything like Cindy Pankopf's BeadMaille jewelry. Mingling beads with chainmail is a new idea that has gained popularity in recent years with both chainmail artists and beaders. But to actually make round links using strung seed beads is truly innovative. Combining these beaded rings with metal jump rings to make unique patterns for jewelry is creativity at the highest level! Using seed beadwork in this manner softens the texture of classic chainmail designs, adds color and movement, and opens the door to even more creative innovations. I'm always impressed when a jewelry artist-designer creates something entirely new, as Cindy has done. I'm sure that you will enjoy incorporating her style of beadwork into chainmail jewelry.” - Sharilyn Miller, author of Bead on a Wire and Contemporary Copper Jewelry

"There are projects that range in complexity from simple to complex, and I think they are all explained very well with clear diagrams. It's a fun book, the projects are innovative, and the results very pretty." - The Bead Dreamer

"Cindy Thomas Pankopf has written a delightful book showing us how to combine basic chainmaille with bead weaving. Beadmaille contains 25 fun and contemporary projects that will start you drooling. If you've never done chainmaille ... not to worry! Cindy takes you through the basics that you'll need for her projects. If you're not terrific at bead weaving ... not to worry either! There are projects for all skill levels and wonderful illustrations to show you exactly what you should be doing." - Beading Arts

"Cindy Thomas Pankopf came up with the beginnings of beadmaille while on vacation. She imagined a design using right-angle weave to make strips of woven beads. Back home she began exploring the concept of adding bead-stitching techniques to chainmail designs, and beadmaille was born. With the beautifully diagrammed instructions, you’ll soon be creating gorgeous pieces from Cindy’s book and designing your own." - Craft Gossip Jewelry Making

"Beadmaille is a stand-out book on the subject of beaded chain mail. There are other maille books that use beads as an integral part of the jewelry design, but this one uses bead weaving. The seed beads are used to connect rings, form structure, add bright color and they are just as important as the mail knitting is to the designs. The designs are innovative and different. Instead of being something just to wear to Renaissance Faires or with costumes, they are everyday wearable. They are artistic and colorful. The basic techniques the author uses to weave the beads and rings together can inspire other designs. Indeed, like traditional chain mail techniques, a lot of the stitch styles can be used to build larger, more dramatic pieces. The introduction covers both basic beading stitches and how to make the rings for chain mail. So if your strength is seed bead weaving, you can just quickly go over that section and pay more attention to how to wind and cut rings. If your strength is chain mail, you can pay more attention to how to do the bead weaves. The projects themselves are wonderful. The combination of metal and glass creates wonderful possibilities of variation by the metal type or color of beads you use. If you're a chain mail artist who wants to add seed beads to your pieces, or a seed bead artist who is fascinated by chain mail, this book is a great start to learning how to combine both techniques." - BellaOnline

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! May 22, 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is fabulous! An innovative way to bring beads and maille together. The instructions are simple to follow, the pictures are in color and easy to follow, and the designs are gorgeous. I just received this book and cannot wait to start creating. The author recommends starting designs for those who are familiar with chain maille but not familiar with beading, and she recommends designs for those who know to weave seed beads but are not familiar with chain maille. I have done some chain maille but I am not familiar with seed bead weaving; however, her instructions are so clear that I am excited to start working with seed beads. Other elements are incorporated into the designs, such as bali style beads, hammered rings, etc. I would say this book is good for beginners through intermediate levels. The designs are not too advanced or intricate, but being a minimalist, I like that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Innovative Chainmail July 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
Weaving Soft Flex through metal links or jump rings to create a modern feeling jewelry design is a very appealing technique that I've been playing around with this past year. It was really neat to see the beadweaver's version. The illustrations in this book look as if they would be really clear and easy to understand. Although the design ideas may look complicated, it seemed like all of the projects were doable by a new beader.

From the back cover: "An Innovative Approach to Chainmail Jewelry Using Beadweaving"

In this book, you will find you will find 25 jewelry projects including but not limited to:

Art Deco Necklace
Centipede Bracelet
Copper Clusters Lariat
Musubu Earrings
Spiral Chain Necklace
Triad Ring
X Factor Bracelet

I think that this book would make a great addition to any jewelry maker's library.
