Living in a community that boasts all of one craft store, I had to order this tool online and then discovered that you need specific crimp beads (gold filled 2mm or sterling silver 2mm only) and specific stringing wire 0.019 diameter only. 1.0 out of 5 stars such a disappointment
I am not a newbie to crimping. I bought the Beadsmith Magical Crimper because the idea of creating a round bead from a tubular crimp was brilliant. As recommended in the directions I used it on .019" flexible beading wire (49 strand "Soft-Flex") with 2mm gold-filled tubular crimps. Even after much practice the best results I ever attained looked like VERY pitted gold...

Living in a community that boasts all of one craft store, I had to order this tool online and then discovered that you need specific crimp beads (gold filled 2mm or sterling silver 2mm only) and specific stringing wire 0.019 diameter only. Based on all that information, I was hooped. I only have available to me Beadalon products (crimps and wire). So, feeling like I had nothing to lose, I strung a standard 2mm gold plated (not filled) Beadalon crimp onto some Beadalon sterling silver plated 0.018 wire, formed a loop and crimped. The first two tries were disasterous until I realized that the bead needs to be perfectly centered in the little pocket of the crimper. On my third try I formed the expected "ravioli" shape, much to my surprise and four rotations of the wire later, I had a perfect round bead. The next step was to try to force the loop to break, so I looped it over a mandrel and tried forcing the loop apart. No luck. I was so thrilled with the outcome I ended up crimping several loops just to ensure this wasn't a fluke. The tool works as advertised and yes, you can use 0.018 beading wire and the less expensive plated crimps, just make sure they are 2mm long, so that they're slightly bigger than the little pocket in the tool's jaws. Well worth the investment for the clean, neat finish of the crimp beads without the bulk of crimp covers. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone that enjoys beading.

Stop spending your money on crimp covers!!! This tool does it all, the tool makes your crimp bead magically turn into a round ball and I NEVER have had one fail, unlike the original crimp tool. I swear you won't be disappointed, I bought crimpers in .014 and .019 sizes.

As recommended in the directions I used it on .019" flexible beading wire (49 strand "Soft-Flex") with 2mm gold-filled tubular crimps. Even after much practice the best results I ever attained looked like VERY pitted gold semi-round uneven clumps. Perhaps some other brand of crimps would work better and perhaps a different brand of .019" Flex Wire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, May 19, 2010

This is one of my favorite crimping tools! It makes such a clean, professional finish to any bracelet or necklace. No need for crimp covers.

Instructions: Make sure you center the crimp tube in the hollow part of the tool, crimp, and see a ravioli shape. Half-turn and crimp again until a smooth bead is created.

Special note about the requirements of the PURPLE-handled Bead Smith Magical Bead Crimper: It works only with 2x2mm crimps and .019 wire. (Although I have gotten away with .018 wire.)

(There is also a green-handled one, which accommodates .014 - .015 wire.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes some practice but works as advertised, July 19, 2009

Great tool, perfect for having smaller, nicer crimps (as crimp covers obviously must be larger than the crimp) and no seams as with covers. Definitely recommended.

I've never crimped before. I am just getting started and decided that if I was going to crimp, I wanted something nice. My very first crimped bead came out perfect. I am amazed. I highly recommend this tool!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your mney, July 10, 2009
This review is from: Beadsmith Magical Bead Crimper, 5-Inch, Purple Handle (Kitchen)
I am no newbie to crimping or beading and love new things. This is truly awful. At no time did any of the crimps become round and wonderful ( I had to use crimp covers anyway), and several did not even hold. Took the Magical item to my local bead store and guess what.....nobody could get "woderful round crimps". Bottom line don't waste your $$$$, you can buy an awful lot of crimp covers for the price of this useless thing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical Tool Weilded By Mere Mortal, June 10, 2009

The Magical Crimp Tool works as advertised. I used the tool on a 5-strand necklace with beaded extensions and with joins in the strands between Sterling Silver connectors, therefore, a total of 18 crimps were formed to look like silver beads with the Magical Crimp Tool. This was my first attempt using this tool and, in the hands of someone "under training", it did a pretty fine job! Plus, it saved money on not having to use crimp covers which would also have detracted from the design. I recommend this product.
