4.0 out of 5 stars One of a handful of Excellants.
I sell beads and beading books at my store...Blue Hawk Beads in Pendleton, OR.
This is one of less than five books I would keep myself or recommend highly. The photos are excellent. The color pictures are great. Best of all, the instructions and photos of how to "do it" are spot on.
A+
Good book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Twenty-two pages are dedicated to photos of works in a very slim 95 page booklet.
I am serious about all techniques of bead work. This book only gives techniques of four beadwork styles, loomwork, applique, peyote, and lazy stitch. It is more concerned with attaching beads to cloth, leather or other backing materials. If you wish to make a pair of moccasins or Indian clothing, then this may be the book for you. I wanted a book that taught all of...

This is one of the best books that I have in my collection! It has the best explanation on how to do loom work, that I have ever seen! It's so easy anyone can do it. The photo's show you how and the instructions are very concise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine survey packed with a range of beadwork styles, from stitching and loom work to applique, November 17, 2009
This review is from: Beadwork Techniques of the Native Americans (Paperback)
Beadwork Techniques of the Native Americans is a 'must' for any jewelry-making, beadwork or Native American crafts library. It explains tricks the author's learned from his extensive experience as a bead worker, includes techniques not to be found in competing beadwork titles, and offers step-by-step color photos tying the information together. The result is a fine survey packed with a range of beadwork styles, from stitching and loom work to applique.

If you want to get started with any kind of Indian beadwork, this is a great book.
The detail level is high, very thorough and easy to understand, with lots of helpful hints that aren't usually included.
The section on loom beading is particularly good. I was able to build a loom myself and immediately make belts, hatbands and so forth as presents for friends. Also used the book to lazy stitch some applique blanket strips and shoulder and arm bands for a shirt.
The book also has what looks like a great section on moccasins that I am about to try out.
All in all the best "how to do it" book I've seen. I'd get a different book for heavy detail on particular tribal designs.

I love this book! I can't WAIT to buy the necessary, inexpensive materials together to EASIY create my own beading loom. There are a few styles to choose from.

The instructions for beading projects are in large print and in color! THANKS!!

I wish my other beading books were this great!

I wanted a book that taught all of the beadwork stitches. Loom work is simple and explained everywhere, so is peyote. I need a book that teaches transferring a pattern into the stitch - how to read the pattern. There is no help for this all important part of designing. I can make my own patterns, do the stitches, but get lost in translating the pattern I've created to the stitch - free floating ladder stitch, brick, herringbone, right and left angle, St Petersburg chain, netting stitch, lace stitches, twisted fringe, any kind of fringe, was all missing from this book. It is only good for a very basic new beader and I am very unhappy this was not explained in any of the previous reviews :-( I would not have wasted my money on this book.
