Artsy latter-day French indiepop... from San Fran!,
By DJ Joe Sixpack (...in Middle America) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Beam (Audio CD)
An Oakland, CA indie/art-rock band which borrows a page or two from the Valerie Lamercier/Coralie Clement/Ivy/Stereolab school of postmodern French ye-ye revivalism. Vocalist Helene Renaut finds sympathetic backing with some of the East Bay's artsier and hippest musicians, buoying her fragmented, obscurist lyrics and emotive vocals with angular and oddly textured accompaniment. Great European sound to a Bay Area group.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beam (Audio CD)
The lead singer is French and provides the group with a strong voice for often wistful music. The whole group has a somewhat European sound, with a far off trumpet on one track that is reminiscent of an old Beatle tune. A great CD to read or work by.
