The Bean Vac unit has operated perfectly.

When you close the lid the pump sucks all the air out, in Auto mode it runs maybe twice a day and is very quiet.

If it lasted 4+ years, I would rate it 5 stars.

I've used the unit for several weeks now and have had no problems. The canister is small enough to fit comfortably on the counter, not much larger than any other 1lb. coffee canister. It holds a pound of beans comfortably. It seals tight and maintains a good seal. Coffee is my hobby. I have an Italian espresso grinder, a German electric Moka pot, and I toss coffee that is more than an hour old. I brew strong coffee too the point when it loses its natural sweetness, and then I back off just a bit. The point is that I can tell the difference that vacuum storage makes. This system works. It keeps beans fresh longer and is just the thing if you like to buy more than a pound or two.

On the "negative" side, it is a bit noisy. My wife thought something was broken in the kitchen when it first started pumping while I was at work. It does pump for +/- 30 seconds. Once you lift the lever it can be a little difficult to open. Allow a second or two for the seal to break and the air to "seep" in. You won't hear anything ... no sound of air "rushing" into the vacuum sealed container. After the first pound, the interior container will get slick with coffee oils and be a little difficult to pull out. Wash it, before the natural oils sour, and you'll be fine.

So far ... it's excellent. I'm considering buying a second unit.

I ordered four of these a year ago after purchasing a new drip coffee maker. Of the comments I noticed in the reviews that there were concerns with the battery life. My wife uses pre ground coffee in her unit and it is opened and shut ever day. The Bean Vac unit has operated perfectly.

I purchase various two lb bags of coffee beans and occasionally a friend brings 100% Kona beans from Hawaii. All units work perfectly. Each Bean Vac holds one lb of coffee, enabling you to open it and split the beans between two containers.

I have the original Duracell Batteries that I purchased (Unit does not come with batteries) and they are still going strong. They go on everyday and the one with the second lb is set to automatic since it will not be opened for a week or more.

Make sure you wipe down the seal on occasion and when closing the lid, push down slightly to make a seal before locking the handle.

I am sure I will be replacing the batteries before the second year is up. I have various rechargeable batteries, but have decided to stick to the regular Duracell. Each Bean Vac takes four of them.

These units are attractive and work as advertised. If We had more room I would have a few more.

We bought two. One works great (5 stars!). The other won't keep a seal. We've cleaned it, brushed it, pleaded with it...no seal (1 star). I've read mixed reviews along these lines. Some buyers love it, others complain that it doesn't work. In sum, I have to assume that there is a random flaw in the production process. So be prepared to send yours back if you get hit with a bad product.

We love our Coffee BeanVac. Had it for over a year. Keeps the beans fresh without having to hassel with the refrig or freezer, like we used to do. Wish we had the coffee press. This is a great product and a great offer, backed by top-notch customer service. jb

When the bean vac functions it does a decent job removing air from the canister. The natural oils on the coffee beans are visible and don't dry out as quickly...so long as the vac actually functions.

This bean vac has a serious design flaw: The batteries require replacing weekly or twice a week. Whether the vacuum is set to reseal every 48hrs or 12hrs, the batteries need constant replacing. I've switched to rechargeable batteries and its not worth the additional effort. This is a poorly designed product and I zealously discourage readers from purchasing it.

It's been but a few weeks. So far no noticed problems of any kind. Vacuum holds rather well. Operation is quiet. Size is within limits and looks is slick and contemporary for kitchen.

The challenge is obviously the longevity of the product. Seals weaken over time and pressure, therefore, only time will tell how good/long the product will last.

In all fairness (and with only few weeks observation) for the price paid this is an excellent product. Also a great gift idea for upcoming holidays.

This is a great product! Very clever design and well made too.
I have read some negative reviews about short battery life but they were old reviews, either they had a bad unit or the design has been improved.

I have my unit on 'Auto' which is the highest battery usage mode and it is still going strong after about a month.

When you close the lid the pump sucks all the air out, in Auto mode it runs maybe twice a day and is very quiet.

There is a nice washable removable liner for the bean although lately i just stick the bag in there instead of the naked beans.

I am thinking about getting another one in case these go out of production.

There have been many complaints that the batteries do not last more than a day or two in this machine. Let me add my complaint to theirs. In a week do you know how many batteries I went through? Then, finally, even fresh batteries weren't enough to do the trick. It worked maybe 1 out of 4 times, and that's even with fresh batteries. In short, my machine lasted all of one week.

Why don't they just add a plug to it and make it run on electricity? The machine itself, on the RARE occasions that the batteries work, works marvelously. It's a good design; it simply needs reliable power.
