More About the Author

Gail Farrelly grew up in the Bronx and now lives in Bronxville, NY. Having a doctorate in accounting from George Washington University, she's taught in several universities and published numerous articles in business and academic journals. Learning about the murderous politics of academic life turned her mind to crime. The fictional kind, of course! Her first mystery, "Beaned In Boston," in which a lecherous professor perishes even though he was well published, was named to the Washington Irving Book Selection List. Her short story, "Even Steven," was nominated for a Derringer Award. Gail writes spoofs for a NY newspaper, The Westchester Guardian, and for a British website, TheSpoof.com. She's getting her novels converted to Kindle format. Gail shares a website, http://www.farrellysistersonline.com/, with her sister Rita, also a mystery writer; see first chapters there.

a clever sleuth with a wonderful cast of supporting characters; a fun mystery! Hope we get more from this author. A "cosy" mystery in a contemporary setting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth your time, February 2, 2009

Doc Physics (Central Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beaned in Boston: Murder at a Finance Convention (Paperback)
This is a poor, amateurish little novel with no tension, cartoon characters, and a fair amount of chauvinism ("He was extremely well organized - unusual for an academic, especially a male academic." p. 22; "Men can live with mediocrity much more easily. They don't expect that much of themselves or others." p. 70; "He was boorish, selfish, and insensitive - like a lot of men." p. 135.) Readers would be much better off reading one of the very fine Emma Latham novels which also are mysteries in business/finance settings.
