4.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly decent bow for small folks
I'm not getting all the hate for this bow. It's solidly built kid's bow, and has a decent feature set for the price - the whisker biscuit is kind of a love-it-or-hate-it add-on, but my daughter loves it, and I think it's a great touch. The pull is stronger than folks are saying, at least on the bow that I received. My daughter's an athletic 12 year-old, and it's just...

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Garbage
My eight year old son saved his money for this bow. He was beyond excited when it arrived. We took it out of the box, attached the quiver, and went out back to shoot it. The draw weight on this thing is about 3 pounds. It's adjusted as tight as it will go. Needless to say an arrow travels all of five feet from this thing. It may be just an anomaly but he is VERY...

It may be just an anomaly but he is VERY disappointed. To top it off Red's Gear, (the Amazon Marketplace seller) won't allow returns unless the product was unopened. Ask yourself how one is to know if the product works without opening the box? We will now have to send the item back under manufacturer's warranty which I am sure will take months........

My daughter's an athletic 12 year-old, and it's just right for her - not too easy, not too challenging We're consistently sinking arrows into heavy cardboard boxes from up to 30' or so. I will say that the dropoff is pretty dramatic beyond that. This is my no means a hunting bow, or a serious target bow - it's a beginner's bow for plinking in the back lot, but what do you expect for the cost? If your kid is still seriously interested in archery after they outgrow this bow, that's when you spend the serious money. As far as I'm concerned, if my daughter's happy shooting this bow outside for hours (and getting pretty good at it, by the way,) instead of playing Angry Birds on her iPod all day, then it was money well spent. Also, keep in mind that this bow is for small folks - the draw length and span are quite short. If you're taller than 5'5", you need to step up to a larger model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Money better spent elsewhere, December 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Although it claims to be a "youth bow", BEAR needs to be more specific and let consumers know that the bow is suited for younger children. I bought this bow initially for my nine year old son to use in archery league. The draw length ended up being barely long enough for my six year old son to use and the firing power so weak that it could barely shoot the arrow through the "bonus" whisker biscuit with enough force to make the arrow stick into the target. In talking to the woman who runs the archery league, she said that although BEAR used to make a decent bow, they've been getting progressively worse and this newest Brave III is a piece of junk. She offered to remove the biscuit and place a basic arrow rest on the bow, only to discover that hole for attaching the biscuit is no longer on the bow face, but on the narrow edge of the bow, making it impossible to replace with a conventional rest without drilling a new hole. Needless to say, I am highly disappointed in the product. The money would have been better spend towards a nicer Hoyt or Matthews youth bow.

The black wire guide snapped off after my 11yr old use it for three days. I would not recommend this item, since the manufacturers use of Chinese grade plastic is really a dumb way to try and bamboozle customers. Shame on you.
Don't waste your money

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for our 5 year old, September 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We purchased this bow for our 5 year old son who has been shooting for the past couple years with a very basic bow. This bow is what we expected for the price paid. I gave the product 4 stars because I would be willing to pay a little more for the bow if it had a nicer string. We are happy with the bow and our son is thrilled to have one just like his dad, grandpa, and uncle! I would recommend this bow to others for young kids getting started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Draw weight is good, not sure other's issues, December 8, 2011
By
So I shopped for 2 weeks to get my 7 year old a good bow for Christmas. I read all the reviews, on all the bows. I drove myself nuts. Finally, I saw this bow at Bass Pro on sale for $40. The reviews sucked, a few people said the draw weight wasnt enough for the arrow to clear the whisker biscut, and the arrow flew three feet. I opened the package in the store and the bow seemed ok. Took the dive.

Brought it home, opened it up (no way am I disappointing my kid on Christmas morning!), whipped out a piece of 2" thick blue foam insulation, stepped back 15 feet and fired. Arrow pierced the insulation and stuck a good 5" out the back side of it. NO draw problems at all.

I think the whisker biscuit will make it very easy to fire, and overall it seems to be really nice construction. I love it so far and cant rate it less than 5 stars. For $40, it cant be beat.

To those who had issues with draw weights... maybe the one you got was somehow defective? Mine's great.

1.0 out of 5 stars $60, December 17, 2010
This review is from: Bear Archery Right Hand Brave 3 Bow Set (Sports)
This bow goes for no more that $60. I find it funny they are selling it for over $100. Go to Basspro of Cabelas for a better deal.

BTW, this is a great starter bow for your kids. I have one my my 8 yr old and he love it.
