While this is a not a hunting bow (though definitely can be at closer ranges), it is probably the best beginner's youth bow out there. My son took to it rather easily. The draw weight is powerful enough to have the arrow make the "t'chi" sound - something that can't be done with a lower draw weight or "toy" bows. This bow can EASILY go 20 yards with cheap carbon fiber youth arrows and up to 40 yards with lighter more expensive aluminum arrows - more than enough for a beginner.
There were two weak points to this bow, otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars. - The pin sight that came with the bow is hard rubber - NOT - steel. Therefore, it doesn't hold zero and must be adjusted often. I have no idea why the mfr did that... We replaced it with an inexpensive Cobra mini sight and it worked great! - The bow does not come pre-nocked. For those do not know what a nock is, it is a catch/notch on the string from which the arrow is shot from. You will have to put one on yourself or have a store do it for you. Really should be put on by someone with the right tools. Ours was put on by my son's archery instructor.
