3.0 out of 5 stars Buy the DVD
The VHS video comes with only one episode for close to $10. For almost $13, the DVD has 3 episodes. I learned the hardway. My daughter loves bear and enjoys watching this video but I should have bought the DVD to get more bang for my buck.

Over the next few days she watched it once or twice a day. I bought it on a Tuesday. By Friday afternoon she wanted to put on training pants and except for nighttime she hasn't had a diaper on since ! It's absolutely amazing ! She's hardly had any accidents during the daytime and she's even waking up dry a lot of mornings. Before this wonderful video she would tell us she had to go, but she refused to go sit on the potty. I can't say enough wonderful things about this video. If you're struggling with potty training, go out and buy it today.

This review is from: Bear in the Big Blue House - Potty Time with Bear (DVD)
I decided to buy this DVD based on reviews that I read here. I had already purchased a potty chair many months ago which we put into our bathroom but I didn't plan on potty training my daughter (26 months old) at the moment since we just had a new addition to our family and I thought she should get used to the idea of her baby sister (2 months old) before tackling another hurdle. Also, I only put her on her potty twice and I really didn't want to start training her while the baby was still young.

Well, she watched the video about 3 or 4 times. No reaction from her and no pressure from me. No big deal right?

Then one morning, after watching the video she wants to go to the bathroom and sit on her potty. And then a miracle! She actual went poop into her potty! I couldn't believe my eyes!

So, now we're going through the stages of potty training and all because of this video. It's great because it talks about taking time from playing to use the potty and how it's okay to have an accident. What do you have to lose? Buy the video, maybe you'll have a miracle too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Teaches kids in terms they'll understand, August 12, 1999
By A Customer
This is one of the cutest episodes I've seen of "Bear in the Big Blue House"! It teaches kids that going to the potty is a normal thing for them, and all creatures. This video also stresses the importance of hygiene. There are some adorable songs in this episode, and that may help children have some fun with learning to potty.

Be warned: The word "poop" is used many times. Some people may not want their kids to use that word, but I personally think it is a very easy (and descriptive) word for kids to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for toddlers... and their parents!!!, October 19, 1999

My son loves Bear! Whenever he sees him he says "bear bear" And while no video replaces a parent's instruction, this video is a great tool for potty training (especially for refining skills). Very tactful and lots of fun. Talks about hand washing, using the potty in a strange place, accidents, and how "sometimes it's kind of hard to stop having fun and take the time to go to the potty." One very understanding bear!

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't believe it, January 30, 2001

I was a litte hesitant buying this video, but after reading previous reviews, I thought "what did I have to lose." My 3yr old son would tell me when he had to go but was refusing to sit on the potty. I bought the video, he watched it twice and asked for his potty chair right away. He is going on his own now, and likes to watch the video afterwards to tell "Bear" that he did go potty. The songs are really catchy and Bear makes the kids feel at ease with going potty. It's direct and to the point. And a winner! I recommend it to any one struggling with this issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great video but too many commercials leading into it., February 10, 2000
By A Customer
My grandson watches this video, which is quite a feat in itself - as he usually doesn't watch anything but "Barney!" He's only 23 months, so I think it might help him more with his potty training a little later on - - it's already helping a little. The video is excellent in its treatment of the subject. It covers all the aspects - good hygiene, encouraging the child to interrupt his play time when he has to go, what the child should do when he's not at home and has to go, etc. My only negative comment is that there are 10 minutes of commercials for other videos at the beginning of the tape. I think these should be at the end of the tape and then if you want to watch them, you can. When I want 10 minutes of commercials, I'll watch TV.

Abby is not quite 18 months, but she loves Bear. We bought this video because we are coming up on potty time. We should have bought two. She doesn't like to sit and wait for it to rewind to watch it again. I am not an advocate of tv sitters, she doesn't watch any other tv than Bear and Blues Clues...but she has to see this video at least once a day...she mimics bear and sits on her potty chair like a big girl...but she has yet to make a "boof" as she calls it. I think he has gotten her this far, in knowing that this is what the potty is for and to not be afraid of it. I love Bear, he is a completely safe show to let any kid watch and I love to laugh at Tutter. Parents can also enjoy the "shadow story", they are cheesy and funny! So all around, get this video!

5.0 out of 5 stars This video was the final push for my daughter to potty train, January 31, 2000
By A Customer
My daughter potty trained late at 4 years of age. In retrospect I realize she struggled with knowing how it felt to go potty. I originally taped this show from the Disney channel. She watched it 4 or 5 times in one week and at the end of the week practically potty trained overnight. Great tape for kids struggling with understanding how to go potty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bear explains potty time, January 24, 2003

This review is from: Bear in the Big Blue House - Potty Time with Bear (DVD)
This is the first Bear in the Blue House DVD that I've bought and my daughter(2+)and I love it. This isn't an instructional video in the sense that it tells you how to potty train. I like to think of it as a way of explaning potty time to my daughter at her level. Bear candidly and calmly explains that everyone uses the potty. He explains that accidents happen and that times you just have to wait and relax while on the potty. I also like that he reinforces hand washing and he suggests what to say when you are away from home and need to go to the potty. There are several scenes about the potty so there are different chances to get the message. I love the hip "Potty Train" song as well as the beautiful singing at the end of every segment with Luna, the moon. The crowning accolade to me for this DVD was that my daughter mentions things that Bear says while going to the potty or in the general course of the day. Also a plus on the DVD is that there are 2 other "non potty" stories so after we get past this stage we will still want to watch it.
