Another adorable bear book,
By Toddler mom "California mom" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bear Feels Sick (Hardcover)
All of Karma Wilson's bear books are sweet and endearing and teach about friendship. Her books are about the only ones I trust to read to my son without previewing ahead of time for inappropriate content. In this one, bear's friends take care of him when he feels ill and he returns the favor when they become sick. It's wonderful that "Bear's New Friend" owl is here. The illustrations by Jane Chapman are lovely. These books are classics and should be a part of every young child's library.

Love that Bear!,

My 22 month old son and I love this book. We started with Bear Snores On and we really enjoy Karma Wilson's beautiful verse, which can be read in so many different ways. My son (being sick right now) can really empathize with Bear and his friends. Our favorite part about this book is that when the tables inevitably turn, Bear is enthusiastic about taking care of his friends too. Beautifully illustrated by Jane Chapman again!

Another great one from Karma Wilson,
By Columbus Mom (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bear Feels Sick (Hardcover)
We got this for my 3 yr old for Christmas and it has become one of both of our favorites. "Bear Snores On" has longtime been in my top 5 of children's books to read to her, and this one is another wonderful story. We've been reading it a lot lately with both of us having bad winter colds and there's something soothing and relatable about it. I love how it ends -- Bear finally feels better, but his friends are now sick and he tells them he'll take care of them. Very sweet. And -- the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. You will love it!

PERFECT ADDITION TO AN ALREADY GREAT SERIES. Gotta love Bear and his friends,
This review is from: Bear Feels Sick (Hardcover)
These bear books by Karma Wilson are some of my favorites and this one, "Bear Feels Sick," is no different and is, in fact, one of my favorite.
The story is simple" "Alone in his cave as the autumn wind blows, Bear feels achy with a stuffed-up nose." It quickly becomes quite obvious that bear has either an old fashion cold or a touch of the flu. He is miserable. It also becomes quite obvious that Bear has a lot of good friends that come to help and make him feel better. Mouse and Rabbit are first and they are followed by a crow, owl, badger, gopher and of course mole. His friend cover him, give him good things to drink, gather herbs, try to get his fever down and generally give him lots and lots of love and sympathy...the same you would give a friend our a child. The gently rhyme adds to the overall feeling of the story and as always, the wonderful warm and colorful pictures by Jane Chapman simply are the icing in the cake. Truth be told, there is simply nothing to dislike about this work. It is absolutely ideal to read to a sick child. They will be able to identify with bear and the way he feels almost instantly. The concern and care given to him by his friends is not only sweet but teaches a good lesson about friendships. This, as with the rest of the Bear Books, is most certainly deserving of a place on your child's books shelf. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

A heartwarming tale about friendship,
This review is from: Bear Feels Sick (Hardcover)
I have been reading the Bear books to my daughter since she was a toddler and we have many books in the series. In "Bear Feels Sick", dear old bear feels poorly and keeps sneezing and wheezing. When his woodland friends [rabbit, mouse, mole, crow etc] come to visit and call him to play, he says he is too sick to play. So what do Bear's friends do? They get together and try to make Bear feel better - collecting herbs, applying a cold compress, fixing him some nourishing soup etc. Soon, Bear is all better, and all ready to play - but finds his friends are now sick! What does Bear do?
This is a heartwarming tale about the value of friendship - sticking together and helping each other out during times of difficulty. As usual, the text is written in 'simple' language, perfect for preschoolers and the illustrations are full-color and simply beautiful. I would recommend all the books in the Bear series as they all have a heartwarming message and are wonderful for reading aloud. Bear and friends are such cute characters that little ones can relate to and you will have your child clamoring for more Bear and friends' adventures!

I love the Bear books and I have every one in the series. I started getting them for my older son when the series first started with Bear Snores On and now I'm reading them all to my younger son as well. Sometimes we have a Bear Book Marathon and read all of them right in a row, it's so much fun! I definitely recommend not only this book but the entire Bear Book series - Bear Snores On, Bear Wants More, Bear Stays up for Christmas, Bear's New Friend and Bear Feels Sick.

We got this book as one of five free Scholastic books from the library's summer reading program. It was our daughter's reward from them for completing our two year-old's reading goal for the summer (which was us reading to her at least 15 minutes a day and we do that and far more every day anyway). Our daughter loves books more than any toy. This book was the first we'd read from Karma Wilson and it turned out to be fantastic both from our perspective as well as our daughter's. Our daughter asks for this book frequently now. The flow of the words is smooth and rhythmic. Words are even placed in different ways on the page to stress certain parts; it works wonderfully. We are now eager to explore all Karma Wilson's books. The Illustrations in this book are amazing -- up there with Nancy Tillman's and Iza Trapani's books. I hope she continues to write for many years and generations to come.

Great story with a great ending. As always, illustrations by Chapman are awesome. Wish I had gotten as a board book because we read these so often. Board books seem more durable. And easier for my kids to turn pages on their own. I recommend any book published by this pair.

We love all the bear books by Karma Wilson. Her stories are cute and the illustrations by Jane Chapman are wonderful. I suggest buying these in hard cover rather than paperback so you can enjoy the illustrations they way should be.
