About the Brand

Kelly Flatley and Brendan Synnott, who became friends at age 11 while attending Middlesex Middle School in Darien, CT, are the business partners behind Bear Naked all-natural breakfast foods. Kelly first developed Bear Naked’s original fruit-and-nut granola formula in July 2002 by baking whole ingredients in her parents’ kitchen and tweaking the recipe until it was perfect. She then labeled the concoction "Bear Naked" and started selling it at sidewalk sales and a couple of local markets. Her granola was plainly packaged in a clear plastic bag and hand-tied with a piece of hay. A month later, Brendan, on hiatus from his role as a talent manager for Saturday Night Live, started joining Kelly in the kitchen, the two cooking all through the night and selling their granola by day. In October 2002, Brendan and Kelly decided to move forward as business partners and Bear Naked was born. Over the next few months, the company really began to grow, and by the end of 2004, Bear Naked was distributing its products to more than 2,000 retailers in 25 states with 20 full-time employees. By August 2005, Bear Naked was the country's fastest-growing natural cereal brand, with the number one and number two selling granola products in the nation. The next month, Kelly, Brendan, and the entire Bear Naked team traveled to Washington, D.C., in their signature Bear Naked vans to launch a new line of breakfast products to retailers at the Natural Products Expo East. With an eye-catching display and abounding energy, the new Low-Sugar Cereals, All-Natural Oatmeal, and 100% Organic Hot Cereals debuted to rave reviews. Today, Bear Naked breakfast products can be found at retailers nationwide.

And why the name "Bear Naked"? It simply reflects that the company's ingredients are all-natural and barely processed. In their words: "With our love for the outdoors and active lifestyles, our whole grain foods fuel our energy. When hiking we were thinking of names and thought 'hungry as a bear.' Thus "Bear Naked" was coined. Plus, it is very catchy."

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Fuel Food! July 7, 2006
Bear Naked All Natural Granola (Apple Cinnamon) is a delicious and nutritious way to start or add a little treat to your day. As a breakfast cereal, you'll be scraping the bottom of the bowl to get just that last little bit more. It's sweet enough so you do not have to add sugar. Just use with low-fat milk, soy or "Lactaid"(another great product for those who are lactose intolerant) for a low-calorie, high energy starter. Nice chunk-size pieces that are both chewy and crunchy and don't get all soggy. You can really taste the apple-cinnamon in this one. The ingredients(which are "Bearly Processed and Utterly Naked") are: whole grain oats(good carbs), wildflower honey, expeller pressed canola oil, walnuts(smart fats), apples, coconut, almonds, oat bran, crisp rice(rice an barley malt), natural flavors, whole grain flax, sesame seeds and cinnamon. There are 7 gr fat, 1.5 sat. fat no trans fat, no cholesterol, no sodium, 17gr carbs, 3 grms dietary fiber, 5 gr sugar(probably from the fruit and honey) and 3 gr protein. 140 total calories per serving(1/4 cup, which I think is a little small for breakfast)),of course that is before you add the milk, so don't forget to add that in if you are counting calories.

Makes a great pick-me-up snack or dessert too! Eat 'em right out of the bag. There are plenty of good size chunky bits. The only problem is that no matter how much you shake it up, after the chunks are gone, there is only crumbs, which are hard to eat as a snack, could get a little messy. But..You can always add those crumbs to a carton of Yogurt or a topping for frozen Yogurt, for a little extra flavor.

This 6 pack of 12oz bags is a really excellent deal for the little over 20 dollars they are charging right now. They are also sold in 2 oz. packages(sold in 12 packs), and there are a good variety of different tastes and flavors. I only wish that there was a variety pack for purchasing them in these bulk deals.

The package has a zip lock to maintain freshness and prevent spills. Throw 'em in your car, purse, backpack or gym bag.

Remember to breathe, eat healthy, and enjoy....Laurie

5.0 out of 5 stars Discontinued! May 15, 2010

I am deeply saddened but Bear Naked's poor business decision to discontinue this product. The reason given by the company spinmaker's is particularly lame. What kind of a reason is "have reached their prime" anyway? I have supported this product for years and don't want to switch to another Bear Naked flavor. For all I know, I could find another Bear Naked product that I like and then the company will discontinue it. Who needs this nonsense? I will find a different brand that rewards loyalty and never come back to any Bear Naked product unless this is put back into production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best they ever made December 10, 2012

The company is so stupid they quit making this flavor, it was because they are so dumb they had it listed wrong so the places could not get it so they think it did not sell, it was the only good one they make but the company is such a poor ran outfit you cant tell them anything that they will listen to. I would buy a truck load of these if they would make em again but they wont and if I had won that big power ball I would buy that company out and fire the idiots that work there.
