5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a fan of these guys, get this album now!
If you are a fan of these guys, I am confident that you will absolutely love this CD! You might have to invest a little bit of time in to it but after a few listens you should agree that it's destined to be a classic. They've had so much great music over the years but I now actually view this as my all time favorite Sixer's CD. It is truly one great song after another...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the SK6ERS that you've come to know and love... :(
I've been looking forward to this album ever since the band announced it's release date, but I've been sorely disappointed with it so far.

I think I'd probably blame the producer, Tom Schick, for over-complicating and over-instrumentalizing the band's classic, unique sound. Unfortunately, this album doesn't allow listeners to appreciate the beautiful vocals...

If you are a fan of these guys, I am confident that you will absolutely love this CD! You might have to invest a little bit of time in to it but after a few listens you should agree that it's destined to be a classic. They've had so much great music over the years but I now actually view this as my all time favorite Sixer's CD. It is truly one great song after another. When I go to the gym now, I am having a bit of a problem because I can't get myself to play any other music on my IPOD. I work out three times a week and I find that after a day or two I can't resist listening to and singing all of these songs all over again.
My only caution/heads-up is that I kind of question the decision to make the song "The Bear" the first track. The song is quite different than most SK6ers music and I do know that a few of my immediate family members initially weren't enamored with the CD based on a quick listen to this song. They have since thanked me profusely for continuing to encourage them to give the CD a chance and it is now on their frequent playlists also. And, as to the song - The Bear - we now all appreciate the genius of it. Sorry for being so windy on this; but these truly are great guys and this CD should rightfully enhance their status and following significantly.

PS. Want to have some bonus fun with the CD? Put your headphones on and listen closely to the great song named DO. As the band really gets jamming (1.24 in to the song) you will here someone in the crowd yell WOW! He's got that right.

I have been a fan of the Sixers for a very long time. I have seen the group play many, many times. These guys are really talented, in every aspect. Their harmonies are beautiful to hear. You can tell that that they really enjoy playing together. This album is very differnet from their other albums. After opening for groups such as Sugarland, Carbon Leaf, Toad The Wet Sprocket, You can tell that the Group has matured so much! Their songs have been featured on One Tree Hill, and other TV shows. It is nice to listen to groups that are so different from other groups!

This is another amazing CD by the SK6ERS! I love the unique talent of this band and this CD is no exception.
The ability to share a story while still making catchy tunes and sweet love songs, is amazing. With that being said, I did have to listen to the CD a few times to really get into it. At first I thought it was stylistically much different than previous albums. However, now that I have listened to it some more...I think it is a classic SK6ERS album with a little more risk and some different sounds.

The variety of the songs is what makes this album so great. From the love songs of, "See Yourself," and "Oh Adeline" to upbeat and fun songs like, "Shady Esperanto," and "All Part of the Show," the album is perfect. I hope I get to catch the band in concert soon. I am sure they would be amazing. It is very refreshing to find a band with true talent and passion, and "The Bear" is a great CD to showcase that the Sixers have both. Enjoy!

I have enjoyed Kellogg & the Sixers before, but this cd The Bear made me a true fan, a cd buyer. I was galvinized by the lyrics especially. Reminiscent of Steve Earle in some ways but not so maudlin and self involved as Earle can be. I recommend it to you if you like lyric centric music in a country rock medium.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kellogg album, September 11, 2009

Pretty much every song would rank among his best songs. "Do" is an instant classic. "Satisfied" has been one of my favorite live songs for a long time. "Esperanto" has a great hook. Excellent effort overall.

This is a great followup to Glassjaw Boxer. Oh Adeline (and its alternative bonus track available only through Amazon MP3) is beautiful, a standout track with a sound different than anything I've heard from the Sixers, although the sample on Amazon excludes the best part of the song. Shady Esperanto has a great upbeat hoook and you'll find yourself humming it to yourself after the first or second go round. A (with love) shades successfully into country. All in all, a varied, deep album that has the potential to put the Sixers into the spotlight that they so richly deserve.

This is a great album. I saw these guys live. They opened for Tyrone Wells in Anaheim. These guys were great. I almost enjoyed them even more than Tyrone so I bought this CD. This album is filled with good music and great fun.

I've been looking forward to this album ever since the band announced it's release date, but I've been sorely disappointed with it so far.

I think I'd probably blame the producer, Tom Schick, for over-complicating and over-instrumentalizing the band's classic, unique sound. Unfortunately, this album doesn't allow listeners to appreciate the beautiful vocals and stripped-down acoustic tracks that made me fall in love with this band. My favorite tracks on the album are those that sound much more like the band's old albums than the rest of "The Bear," and I'd highly recommend "Satisfied Man," "Lonely in Columbus," and "Howl at the Moon" (only available through Amazon download) to any fans of the classic SK6ers.

I'll continue to support the band and buy their albums, but I will say that if this was this album was my first impression of the band, I would not have considered myself a Stephen Kellogg fan. I'm seeing them in concert in Minneapolis tomorrow night, so maybe I'll get a chance to tell him my opinions in person...
