"When springtime comes,/in his warm winter den/a bear wakes up/very hungry and thin!" He lumbers outside and begins to look for food, eating the new shoots of grass that have popped up outside his front door. But that barely begins to satisfy his hunger, and the bear wants more. Fortunately his woodland friends, Mouse, Hare, and Badger pass by, glad to see him after the long winter, and help him find food... strawberries, clover, and fish in the stream. But the bear's still hungry and wants more to eat. "Meanwhile.../back at the big bear's den/wait Gopher and Mole/with Raven and Wren.// They bake honey cakes./They decorate the lair./It's a springtime party/for their good friend Bear!" Bear smells the party foods wafting in the air and hurries home to his big surprise party. But he's eaten so much today, that he's too big to fit into his den and gets stuck in his own front door. Now with a party inside just waiting to begin, what are Bear and his friends going to do..... Author, Karma Wilson and illustrator, Jane Chapman are back with a joyous springtime sequel to last year's marvelous Bear Snores On. Ms Wilson's rhythmic, rhyming text is engaging, and little ones will revel in reading the oft-repeated refrain, "But the bear wants more!", along with you. Ms Chapman's bold, bright and expressive artwork is filled with vivid color, eye-catching detail, and endearing characters. Together word and art usher in the spring with humor and fun. Bear Wants More is a winner, and a charming, read-aloud, preschool crowd-pleaser that shouldn't be missed.

My neighbor got this book for us as a gift and I could never have imagined how it would change our lives. My son loves this book. His favorite part is when it says "but the bear wants more" I pause before I say more, and he screams "MORE" using the sign language you see on the front. It is a great find. We are all very happy to have the "bear mo" book (as my son calls it).

I loved this book! I eagerly awaited the release of this bear book by Karma Wilson. I just read it to my four year old daughter and she LOVED it. All of Bears friends are back in this delightful picture book. I can not wait for more books about bear and all his friends!

I could read this book a hundred times a day and not tire of it. It is such a nice read and my son loves it. I bought it for my nephews and it was a favorite at their house too.

What a great series of books for 2.5 year olds and up. The illustrations are wonderful, the story line is sweet and charming, and my Son loves to hear them over and over. This is our 3rd and we plan on purchasing the remainder.

This book is truly one of my all-time favorites to read, and both of my children LOVE all the "bear books". The illustrations are beautiful, and it's one of the very few books that I've not tired of after reading hundreds of times. I can't wait for Karma Wilson's next book!

Great rhythm and tempo for young ones and the illustrations are just lovely. Bear and his friends are charming; a new classic.

Sister book to "Bear Snores On" (also a good selection), this is a nice and simple story for a 2-year old. Well drawn.

This is a terrific sequel to Bear Snores On. The pictures are vibrant and appealing. The rhyming text is clever and whimsical and appropriate for children just learning how to talk through age 5-6. We love giving these two books as gifts and our son enjoys them as well.

Another 5 star reception at our house! The kids wanted to stop unwrapping presents and read this as soon as they saw it! We're working on the memorization for this one too! (see my review of B Snores on) The kids were excited to see Bear waking up in the spring, which sparked lots of questions about why bears sleep all winter. A great jumping off point to introduce the kids to the habits of animals!

Can't wait for the new Bear book in Summer '06!
