I was a little hesitant to spend so much money on a digital scanner. Now that I have the scanner and have been using it for a couple of weeks I must say it is worth every dollar spent on it. The sound output is very clear and loud. The scanner itself is very solid. It is a bit cumbersome to program manually and the product manual is very poor but I relied upon the forum and frequency database at www.radioraference.com The users in the forum was very helpful and I had the scanner up and running in two evenings. The Uniden software that comes with the scanner is very limited and I would suggest that you purchase the ARC250 basic software. This scanner is a must buy for any die hard scanner hobbyist.

It isn't often that you research a product and finally choose your pick and find when it is delivered you under estimated its abilities and friendly interface. That is exactly what happened when I received my BC296D, it is a high quality, high performing device with a user interface that was designed for my thinking process. I have introduced it to others who have, borrowed it for short periods, and without exception their summary was similar to my own experience. Bearcat has a real "Winner" on their hands with this product! Kudos to the development engineers and the workers who have designed and delivered a promise beyond their claims.

Without reservation I recommend this product to anyone seriously considering a digital trunk tracking handheld scanner. It truly does have a feature set and performing characteristics that sets it above the competition; Definitely a "WINNER"!

This model has been replaced twice over by newer models from uniden. I have had mine for around 7-8 years.
The newer models arent this much. It's been a good radio.
