A really fine book! The author does a great job of synthesizing interviews and news about the Bearcat football team's recent success with a very interesting history of the team going back to the early 20th century. His main argument is that winning awaited the ability of recruiters to get more local talent, so the story really involves Cincinnati as a whole more deeply than you might expect.

The author covers all the bases. Not only do you get plenty on coach Brian Kelly and such Bearcat-Bengals as Greg Cook and Artrell Hawkins, there's a whole chapter on Jimmy Nippert of Nippert Stadium fame. All the characters you would hope to read about are here--Socko Wiethe, Glenn Sample, Jim O'Brien, even Oscar Robertson--what book on UC sports would be complete without him?

So, a great read, and Xavier or Miami fans might disagree, one of the best books on Cincinnati in recent years. As a UC alum I'll be keeping it with my copy of the 1943 WPA guide to the city--that remains the best book on Cincinnati ever.

Josh Katzowitz's book is a thoughtful and well researched analysis of the UC football team and its recent rise to prominence in college football. The anecdotes kept me entertained and the book flowed well with history and current events intertwined. Highly recommended.

I just finished reading Bearcats Rising by Josh Katzowitz and I can say without a reservation that if you have any interest at all in UC football, you MUST purchase and read this book. It contains many amazing stores about UC's football history and it will open your eyes about how the team is managed.

If you're a Cincinnati fan, or just a college football fan who wants to learn more about the history of a program this is a book for you.

Well written, lots of detail, lots of history, lots of characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Couldn't put it down.

Really well written and a great look into the Bearcat Football past. Would really love to have a follow up, unfortunately this book ends before our undefeated season in 09 or our monumental hiring of Legend Tommy Tuberville.
