Product Description

Bearing Buddy Outer Bearings - Model #1980 - Clamshell Pair - When backed into the water for launching, boat trailer wheel hubs, heated by travel, are suddenly cooled. Air inside the hubs contracts and a vacuum is created. Water and dirt are sucked into the hubs through the inner seals and corrosion sets in immediately. Bearing failure can be expected within two seasons in fresh water - one season in salt water. When properly installed and maintained, bearing buddy prevents wheel bearing failure and eliminates bearing repacking. Boat trailer wheels can be completely submerged. Bearing buddy also prevents bearing failure on motorcycle, utility, snowmobile, camping, and other trailers by eliminating moisture build-up in hubs and providing proper lubrication. A wheel hub does not have bearing protection unless a slight positive pressure is maintained inside the hub. If pressure is not maintained, water will enter and corrode bearings. Bearing buddy creates this pressure, which is limited to 3 psi. features The original product proven in 25 years of service keeps water and dirt out of hubs makes boat trailer wheels safely submersible, ends the mess of repacking bearings. Pressure relief feature protects hub seals, prevents over filling, quick, positive lubricant level check. Made of steel and 100 percent inspected for long term tight hub fit quality construction. Heavy stainless steel barrel, stainless steel internal parts, clam shell packaging.

I was replacing bearings every year; and hearing them way before that. I installed the bearing buddies and spindle seals and I think it will take care of the problems and keep my bearings lasting for several years. If I get two years out of them, they have paid for themselves, especially if they keep my from a side of the road breakdown. Easy to install and maintain.

I installed the buddies when I replaced my bearings, filling up the cavity in the hub with as much grease as it would hold to make filling with the buddies easier. I used a large wooden mallet to install the buddies. A small block of wood and a regular hammer would do the job as well. I drove the boat and trailer around and refilled a couple of times to get the air out. I would suggest carrying the grease gun with you for a few trips and filling at the ramp before dropping the boat in to get rid of any air that might still be there. At the same time, be careful of over filling. I have a small grease gun that has marine bearing grease in it for just taking care of the trailer.

Easy to install. A must for boat trailers. Keeps water out. Only wish it came with the needed dust/dirt covers to keep Zerks clean. Those covers have to be ordered separately.

What can I say - Bearing Buddies have been around for many many years. I recently bought a 1996 Bayliner with no documentation on the trailer. To me Bearing Buddys are cheap insurance against trouble on the road, since the nearest body of water is 80 miles from where I live. Had a little problem figuring out the exact model to get, but called Bearing Buddy and they confirmed that I had selected the right model. Their technical support folks were courteous and knowledgeable too. Best price & free 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime - as expected.

Really easy to install. BUT, definitely make sure you don't mix your grease types. If you don't know what grease you had in your bearings, clean them out and re-grease them before installing and filling these..

ALSO, don't pay to have your bearings greased. They will charge $80-100+ for something you can do for free, If you don't know how, just Google it!

BEARING BUDDY IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR TRAILER. IF YOU HAVE EVER SEEN A TRAILER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH A BROKEN BEARING YOU KNOW THEY WISHED THAT THEY HAD INSTALLED A BEARING BUDDY. EASY TO LUBE YOUR TRAILER BEARINGS TOO. THANKS =)

I had a generic one on before, it leaked grease everywhere. Got tired of cleaning wheel. The caps also seem to stay on better than the off brands. Stick with the original.

I would never have a trailer w/o Bearing Buddies. I can't recommend them enough. They keep the grease packed in the bearings while you are rolling down the road and if you have a boat trailer, when you submerge for launching. A quick glance and you can tell if you need to add some more grease as the spring loaded zerk fitting pops out as you pump grease in. They work great for any kind of trailer. I do recommend the boots for them also as they help keep the wheels clean.
