3.0 out of 5 stars Overall good item but..., September 18, 2011

This review is from: #22 Ball Bearing Meat Grinder w/VBelt Pully 2 Plates
Ok first,im country born and raised and ive been using cast iron and items like this for going on 25 years. My family has done so for generations, so im no wetear green novice when it come to items like this.
And given the rising necessity for the unlearned to begin to process their own foods can be a difficult and dangerous enouf journey as it is without profit seekers misguiding them, or putting health and safety on the back burnner. So please forgive my straight forwardness on this review, but i feel it needs to be this time, for all those out their that are wetear green novices to self suficient living.Especially to individuals who dont know any better other than to trust the merchants at his word and wash it up and go.

The Bad First.

The the item I recieved was not electro chrome plated {if it is,then the quaility is well below first time plater}.
My item was more like spray painted...Ok for the price except this spray paint like stuff is all over the inside and the auger...This is Possibly very toxic if used in this state IF this is a heavy metal based paint/coating.
It would have been safer to left the inside and auger bare and oiled.{better to get the "runs" as opposed to heavy metal poisoning}.

Also the plates seem a tiny tad thick for this model so becareful not to over tighten if using the sausage tubes, especially if you up grade to the metal ones...Dont want to bugger up the blades.

Now other than that it seems fine.
I am keeping mine to use "BUT" I am sandblasting the auger and the inside to remove any potentialy toxic paint

OVERALL this is a fairly good item, its modern cast iron so its not going to be totally precision...especially when compared to its ancestors. The wheel pully helps to give leverage when working by hand and is a arm saver when belted to a variable speed motor.
Legs could be a tad taller to allow for bigger catch pan for table mounting...but works just as well when mounted to its own mobile shelf/bench especially if belted to a motor.

Im adding this one to my stash to stave off wear and tear on our old ones to ensure they last another 3 or 4 generations.
About Your only other problems will be trying to figure out what u butcher up next.

1.0 out of 5 stars meat grinder, August 3, 2010

It is ok. The body of the grinder is cast metal, one foot is not level with the others and must be shimmed to keep it from rocking.

There were no instructions in or on the box the grinder came in so we had to guess how a couple of the parts fit together (it wasn't too difficult to figure out) just irritating not to even have a good picture to help us.

There were no hints on grinding meat so we didn't know to start with the coarsest grind and then go to the finer grind. It seems obvious now but wasn't when we did our first grinding.
