My daughter's Favorite book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bear's Busy Family (A Barefoot Board Book) (Board book)
This has been my daughter's favoite book since she received it as a gift when she was 7 months old. She has stacks and stacks of other baby board book, including all the classics like "Goodnight Moon," and this is always the one she pulls out and wants to hear me read. She seems to love the illustrations, which are whimsical, very colorful and glossy, as well as listening to the sweet story. The fact that the book is a little larger than what seems to be the standard board book size also seems to appeal to her. I highly reccommend this book!

This is a rhyming book about the bears in the family and what they do, like sing, lick bowls, and pick plums. It provides a nice review of the names of family relationships. It's not at all scary. It has about 80 words.

Other Bear Books Are Better,

This review is from: Bear's Busy Family (A Barefoot Board Book) (Board book)
I love the entire Bear series by Stella Blackstone and Debbie Harter except for this book. On the page referencing the baby's birthday the mother bear is holding a bottle. The mother bear isn't feeding the baby; she is just holding the bottle up for everyone to see. The bottle is not needed in the illustration. There is no reference to feeding the baby, and many babies on their birthdays are using sippy cups. It would be nice if a new illustration was made for this page without the bottle. The U.S. Surgeon General, among others, is working hard to make our culture more supportive of breastfeeding. [...] Part of making our culture more accepting includes images and illustrations that support breastfeeding. My child understands that mammals feed their young, and my child knows that bears are mammals. My child asked me why the mother bear is holding a bottle. Please update the illustration in the book and remove the bottle from the image. The mother bear could be holding nothing at all, or she could be holding anything else - a toy, a blanket, a birthday hat, a flower, a piece of bread (other bears in the photo are holding slices of bread) etc.
