Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

In Bear and Mrs. Duck (1988), the appealingly childlike toy reluctantly made friends with a new babysitter; by now, Mrs. Duck is an old friend. Nora has warned Bear not to investigate the wrapped gifts while she's out shopping, but a long time in her closet during a game of hide-and-seek provides an irresistible temptation that leads inevitably to disappointment: the hoped-for train can't be in those little parcels. Nora comes home to comfort and cheer up Bear, but wisely not to reveal her secret until the lesson is absorbed; then the train turns up under the tree after all. A warm story with endearing characters, nicely extended in the sympathetic illustrations in holiday colors. (Picture book. 3-8) -- Copyright ©1991, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

From the Inside Flap

It's one week before Christmas! When Nora leaves Bear home with Mrs. Duck so that she can do some last-minute shopping, he promises not to hunt for presents. Bear tries to be good, but he happens upon his gifts during a game of hide-and-seek. All Bear wants is a train, but none of the boxes seems the right shape. Soon Bear begins shaking and snooping, poking and peeking at his presents.

Now Bear is worried. Won't Nora be sad that he broke his promise! What will happen on Christmas morning? --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This review is from: Bear's Christmas Surprise (Hardcover)
Bear's playing hide'n'seek. He hides in the closet with the Christmas presents. Should he take a little peek? Bear is wonderful. The illustrations are more than perfect. I love Bear.
