It has taken a long time for me to write a review on this album because there is nothing but good thing to say. The whole CD is amazing from start to finish. There are tunes that make you want to bang your head and other that will make you mosh. I own all the Cancer Bats CD's and they have never let me down and this is no acceptation. If you want a great album at a great price buy this one, you won't be disappointed.

The name Cancer Bats sparks this flame that you never knew was in you this perverseness that makes you want to growl and thrash, and that's only the name. Cancer Bats newest third album doesn't stray too far from their albums "Birthing The Giant" and sophomore "Hail Destroyer".The distinct sound of the Cancer Bats classified as southern hardcore metal, and that's a genre all on its own. Which can be quite difficult to improve in the situation of the Cancer Bats. Bears, Mayors, Scraps, & Bones isn't some type of experimental album or melancholy album it's just as comparable too their first two albums. Make no mistake that the new album would exhibit halfheartedness or weakness in the Cancer Bat it still links together the thrashing drums as if eagles were making love to their deaths, with guitar rifts ripping and tearing like a pack of wolves, and vocals between screaming and yelling bears would grow fearful. Overall, Cancer Bats created another furious and raging album that once defined them but in no way do they try too appeal or really make their songs differentiate from on another but with such fame and experience I say this album isn't going to change the world. Definitely they'll get a few people moshing around it.

I was really excited for this release, especially with it following "Hail Destroyer", which was a super kick-ass album. But even after a few listens, which is what it generally takes for an album to click with me, I still couldn't get past how generic and stiff it seemed. That scrappy ethos of the previous album seemed to be completely removed from this release and that surprised the crap out of me. Even most of the titles of the tracks have generic modern rock names, nothing darkly tongue-in-cheek like "Harem of Scorpions" or "Lucifer's Rocking Chair" off of "Hail". Despite the cynicism above, there are some solid ones that I really dug, namely "Sleep This Away" and "Scared To Death". It's worth a listen and definitely a pick-up for fans but it's otherwise nothing special. I still really dig these guys, their sound and style, but this is relatively passive. I hope they can bounce back for their next release.
