Ode to the Misconception Stall for Papa Bear!,
By Donald Mitchell "Jesus Loves You!" (Thanks for Providing My Reviews over 109,000 Helpful Votes Globally) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The Bears' Picnic (Hardcover)
This story was a favorite of our four children for many years! If you don't know it, check it out!Papa Bear is an impetuousfellow. In this humorous and beautifully illustrated poem, he promises to take Mother Bear and their son "to the very best place in the world" for a picnic. The poem nicely lays out many examples of stalled thinking, and will encourage youngsters reading the book to check out their assumptions before they leap. Papa Bear actually has a spot in mind where he and Mother Bear used to go. The only problem is . . . there's a smoky train that goes by that formerly idyllic spot now. Unwilling to admit that he may have been subject to the tradition stall (believing that things are unchangingly perfect), he charges off to try again. Before the Bear family is done, they will have found a big picnic full of other rowdy animals, mosquitos, trash in a dump, an airplane glide path, rain, and dangerous lightning. Sure enough, they trudge home . . . and have their picnic on their dining room table. Which is a round about way of saying that there's no place like home. Children will learn to question authority as well, having seen that Papa Bear can be so wrong. These are a lot of good lessons in one short, enjoyable book. Overcome your stalled thinking about how soon your children can start to improve their thinking with this book!

The Bears' Picnic,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Bears' Picnic (Hardcover)
The Bears' Picnic is a wonderful book for people of all ages. This story is about the Berenstain Bears going on a picnic and trying to find the perfect spot to set up and eat. Papa Bear insists that he knows all the best spots in Bear Country but everywhere they go and set up something bad happens. For instance, the first place they go is a nice little spot under a tree, but unfortunately the spot happens to be by railroad tracks. I bet you can guess what happens next! A train comes and smokes them out. That is just one of the many incidences that happens in the story. I think almost every child would enjoy this book because it is full of surprises, just when you think the bears have found the perfect place to eat something goes wrong. I would recommend this book for kids from ages 2-7. It is also a good book for parents to read to their children, because I think many adults would enjoy it too. I'm 13 and I love this book, it's one of the best books I have ever read. Its funny rhyming patterns and words make it fun to read. I highly recommend you read this to your child or have your child read it, because it is really worth the time. I know you will enjoy this fantastic story by Stan and Jan Berenstain.

The Bears' Picnic,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Bears' Picnic (Hardcover)
The Bears Picnic by Stan and Jan Berenstain is a good book for children of all ages. The book was about a family of bears who were going on a picnic. But they couldnt seem to find the right spot. Every time they went somewhere, something went wrong. First, they tried a spot where they used to go when they were young, but it was by a train. Next, they tried a quiet area that no one remembered except for Papa Bear, but that day there happened to be a big picnic there. Then they tried a spot by the pond that was great except that they got attacked by mosquitoes. When they got to a nice spot by a cliff, it turned out to be a dump. After dodging jets, and almost getting hit by lightning, do they ever find the perfect spot for a picnic? Read and find out. I thought this was a funny book brought on by the Bears bad luck.

The Bears Picnic,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Bears' Picnic (Hardcover)
I thought this book was cute for kids between the ages of 4-8. Its not a learning book, but its cute and it also rhymes, what kind of kid doesnt like a rhyming book? I read this book when i was younger, I thought it was so funny how they had to keep leaving the "perfect picnic spot". Now that I'm older I don't think its as funny. But it will keep any child occupied, i would recommend this book to any young child.

One of my childhood favorites!,

This is one of my alltime favorite books from my childhood! The best part about the book is the illustrations! Most of the pictures seem to be geared toward the grown-ups reading the book, not just cute drawings for the children. Especially the little backround illustrations and Mother Bear's expressions---hysterical! Many of the older Berenstain books seemed to have that underlying adult humor--- kinda like The Simpsons does nowadays. I think they wanted the grown-ups to enjoy the books as much as the kids. In my opinion, the Bears books of today (as well as the TV cartoon program) are benign, and dull compared to the witty books written when I was a kid.

A Kid's Review

the book the Bears picnic is a really good children book. I don't think older kids would still like it that much, but it teaches a preally good lesson. The lesson in that story was that never to give up. the bear never gave up on where the perfect place for a picnic was, and after all his hardwork he finally found a perfect picnic place which was his home. I really recommend little kids to read this.even though is kids didn't want to walk anymore he continued to try to find the perfect spot.

My daughter loved it. She's 4 and just learning to read. The words are simple enough for her to read most of it herself and the story is interesting enough for her to want to read it.
