4.0 out of 5 stars Bears in the Family Tree..., December 15, 2011
This review is from: Bears of the World (Hardcover)
"Bears of the World" is author Terry Domenico's survey of the bear family, including its more prominent members, such as the black, brown, and polar varients, but also the less well known types such as the sun and sloth bears.

"Bears of the World" takes a chapter by chapter approach to the different sub-species, weaving together narrative and pictures. The text is fact-filled but easily readable, and gets into some of the controversies such as whether or not pandas are truly bears. Concluding chapters talk about bear interactions with humans and the resulting safety hazards to both.

First published in 1988, the content of "Bears of the World" is a little dated, having missed over two decades of research on the impact of changing environment and wildlife management. However, "Bears of the World" is still recommended as an interesting read to fans of the bear family, even in used condition.
