lighthearted Jewel urban fantasy,
This review is from: The Bearskin Rug (Mass Market Paperback)
Chicago Department of Consumer Service detective Jewel Heiss and her partner former con artist Clay Dawes are going undercover. Joining them is the Randy the sex demon she freed from THE BRASS BED. Her assignment is to look into first hand erotic weirdness at a film studio.
Jewel assumes that a studio making porn would have hinky kinky erotica, but it is Randy who becomes an actor and Clay who becomes an avatar to a sex goddess who get the roles. Concerned over how easily her two male companions have been sexually entranced, Jewel goes deep undercover to end the siren enchantment of sexual harassment that leaves pathetic men like Clay and Randy thinking with their lower heads and women stars of the grope. The third Jewel lighthearted urban fantasy continues the adventures of the heroine in a somewhat magical Chicago; although almost everyone is in denial that magic exists. The story line is fast-paced as the trio assaults the studio with differing results. The triangle seems to have been resolved, but the audience should read the previous two tales (see THE VELVET CHAIR) to better understand how Jewel ended up with two males in her life. Not only does this book have all the wit, imagination, intelligence and charm of the two earlier books in the series, it displays the writer's growing understanding of her characters as well. Actual depth! I'm SO impressed. I will definitely be re-reading all three of these books while I wait impatiently to see where Stevenson takes her hinky Chicago folk next.

I simply love this book. The rest of the story is also a must buy ('The Brass Bed' and 'The Velvet Chair').
The book arrived 1/2 weeks earlier than expected which is absolutely awesome.

Oh wow this was a great book i liked it best in the series as it brought tears to my eyes as the things that happened in it felt so real between jewel and randy. A real romance but also the sex demon doesn't disappoint. The storyline was terrific making you think what is going to happen next.
The thing i liked about it that jewel and randy really had to overcome a few hurdles in their relationship (well sex demon life) just like life and while this happened they both realised what they really wanted and who. This is a book i have already enouraged my friends to read and i will be reading it again soon. To me that is a good book. One that doesn't sit on your shelf collecting dust as you only read it once. (Just a figure of speech since its a kindle addition). This book could be read by itself but i recommend you read the brass bed and the velvet chair first as they are funny, sexy and help the reader to get a big and i mean big insite on randy the sex demon and jewel the mortal. The brass bed is when jewel first meets randy and its a essential piece of the storyline and man is it hot, i felt very flustered in a good way. If you want some indepth sex scenes involving what women really want in bed these are the books for you. I cant wait for the next one in the series. I hope you will write more jennifer.

If I could have given this book 3 1/2 stars, I would have but since that option isn't available I graded up :-). I found this book to be a fun/fast read. Not a complicated story. A detox book, one to read when you don't feel like taking on a complex multilevel store line. The reason why I graded up is because I think all the characters are basically likeable and the chemistry between all of them is written well. The dialog didn't feel hokey. This book is like the light-hearted comedy shows on TV, not much in store line but fun to watch all the same. I am looking forward reading the other two books.

I found this book dissappointing because of who Jewel picks. Other readers might be happy with her choice. I think this is the weakest book of the three-- it wasn't as entertaining as the first 2. However with the way it ends, I hope the series will continue as I feel it is unresolved.

The Bearskin Rug - Another great ride,
This review is from: The Bearskin Rug (Mass Market Paperback)
I read Jennifer Stevenson's third book in her Brass Bed series, and this one is even loonier than the first two. This series is set in a magical Chicago and it follows the adventures of a Department of Consumer Services enforcement officer and her partners (in all senses) as they chase down unwanted magic and fraud. These books are hilarious. Anyone liking romantic fantasy on the sexy side will love this book and the others in the series.

This was a good book, good but not great. I like this series. I think it's funny, different and has a great premise. There's nothing high-brow about this one, it's just plain fun. I mean, there's a male sex demon, a tired and worn-out female police officer and the guy that has a crush on her. It's fun and a great quick "just give me something to read" book.
The problem is that the series is starting to get a little "yeah, yeah, yeah". We've seen it. he's going to zap into something and she's going to have to get him out. Got it. There's a love triangle. Got it. I am interested enough to follow this series to see where the author takes it though. She has several options. Great beach read! |
