4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Album
this is a dark, but really nice album. In fact, the Inspiral Carpets were a dark, nice band. It's a pity that they got lost. Beast Inside is a very good cd, with different styles of songs: epic, ballads, faster songs, this is a cool reminder of the 90 pre-Oasis.

3.0 out of 5 stars A radical departure from their debut album "Life."
After the buoyant "Life," which, in my mind, could have been a great party album if it had received some airplay, the Inspiral Carpets obviously opted to reveal a more "serious" side with "The Beast Inside." After the buoyant "Life," which, in my mind, could have been a great party album if it had received some airplay, the Inspiral Carpets obviously opted to reveal a more "serious" side with "The Beast Inside." From the Cure-like "Born Yesterday," to the mega-lengthy "Further Away," to the somber and pretentious "Niagara," it's almost as if this is an entirely different band altogether, linked only by the omnipresent organ of Clint Boon (who plays some piano this time), and the unique vocals of Tom Hinley.

Some of it works, some of it doesn't. I guess I like the Inspiral Carpets songs that rock a little, so my favorites on this album are "Caravan" (more similar in style to "Generations" and I'm Not Your Savior" from the band's next album), and "Grip." I would have given the album another half star but for the fact that the "Further Away," almost 14 minutes in length, needn't have been even half that long, and really makes the end of the album drag.
