So I was on Amazon and I saw this album and thought "WOW! This looks as cool as the 5th and eponymous Metallica album, except instead of a dumb snake in the corner this has a really bitchin' ALLIGATOR MAN (actually it's some kinda monster hairy alligator man which is even more gnarly) with a BANJO in a SWAMP which is about as "oh my god so southern rock my face might melt out of sheer awesome" as you can get, which is to say pretty damn awesome".

Anyways I listened to the whole thing (twice through already!) and DAMN do these guys shred. Don't just call this "southern rock" because they clearly aren't some bluegrass type crap (what is bluegrass anyways DOES ANYONE EVEN KNOW). If you like classic rock, and I mean the GREATS man then you will undoub-etedly love this. They've Put a Spell on ME if you know what I mean. Transylvania Girls, man. Damn.

5 stars for the cover art, 5 stars for the music. They've Put a Spell on ME if you know what I mean. Transylvania Girls, man. Damn.

Hidden, deep messages and story morals aside, the band packs every ounce of it's collective soul into a musically muscular package, and includes all the right production nuances: frenzied horns, white hot keys, a driving backline. The lead and backing vocals are a perfect fit and the entire mixture is, plainly put, a deliciously good time. The Dance Hall Pimps offer up a big sound that doesn't get so big that it becomes aurally asphyxiating. The best song on the album may be "Underneath Your Stone." The lead guitar/horn section interplay is positively blistering. In fact, that may be the underlying theme of the entire album, and "Wrong Guy" and "Seems Holy" are great examples. The keyboard and sax solos on "Heartbreak Of Dawn" and "In The Back Of My Mind" are similarly scorching. - Michael Canter - Jivewired

Most music is trend or fashion driven, which can be okay, but at some point you've heard it all. That's why I love DHP, no pretension, take it or leave it - they are just good musicians making the music they feel like making.

On the surface, the lyrics are sometimes B-movie fodder, but the subtext is deep and imaginative. The performance and production are in tune with each other, allowing you to be a part of the experience instead of just listening to something being thrown at you.

It's hard to pin a genre to this band, but I like that - I mean does a band have to make only one kind of song? Having said that, 'Mommy Was a Zombie' is my favorite and I seem to be drawn more to the rock pieces.

All and all, really good stuff.

I can't even describe how I feel when I listen to Beast For Love, but I know I have a smile on my face! I was intrigued by their cover art, and if that doesn't get you then their music definitely will. They have these underlying tones of The Doors, and then add in some great lyrics, and a haunted house type-feel and you have Dance Hall Pimps. This album is just so unique compared to all of the other albums coming out nowadays. It's different, it's funky, and there is not one song I don't appreciate. I would absolutely love to see these guys live!
