Book Description

5 and upK and up
DANGER! WARNING! KIDS beware! Bound in the bilious green-spotted fur (100% fake) of an unidentified weird beast, here is a book that kids will love—quite literally—from cover to cover. In the macabre spirit of the Halloween season, funny rhymes range from “Parasite Lost” to “Leap Halloween,” and are illustrated with gruesome graphics. Elementary school kids will want to be the first to own this outrageous fur-clad book, but librarians may prefer the standard library bound edition, minus the fur!

More About the Author

I grew up in a very creative, book-loving family. My father was a photographer, and my mother was a librarian. They read to me constantly, especially poetry. When I was seven, they built me a puppet theater and I gave my first performance, "The Three Wishes." In college I studied literature, and afterwards I became a children's librarian. A few years later, I set out on my own as a puppeteer, quickly joining forces with another puppet artist, who became my husband. We studied traditional puppetry in Indonesia, and traveled all over the U.S. as teachers and artists-in-residence. About twenty years ago, I combined what I had learned as an avid reader and writer, as a librarian and children's entertainer, and began writing books for children. All of my books are meant to be read aloud and dramatized. To learn more about how each of my books came to be, please visit my web site: http://www.judysierra.net.

My little girl loves this book because of the fury cover, and the poems are pretty good so I don't mind reading it over and over.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun cover, June 27, 2010

This review is from: Beastly Rhymes to Read After Dark (Hardcover)
This is a good poem book, not great, some of the poem content seems a little old for my kids. The best part is the cover. Overall an ok item, just not the best/funniest poems we've read. But it does make a nice novelty gift because of the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars A series of zany animal encounters makes for fun, unpredictable rhymes, October 11, 2008
This review is from: Beastly Rhymes to Read After Dark (Hardcover)
Judy Sierra's BEASTLY RHYMES TO READ AFTER DARK sports a zany, attractive wild lime green spotted furry cloth cover to accompany a set of wild rhymes illustrated by Brian Biggs. From 'The Lavatory Crocodile' to 'Leopard Chefs', a series of zany animal encounters makes for fun, unpredictable rhymes. An excellent leisure read for middle school readers.
