A wonderful, entertaining, thoughtful read, November 5, 1997

This review is from: Beasts (Paperback)
Harold Jaffe has a gift for pulling you into his stories. Each of the short stories in this book have animal titles, but deal with very human emotions. It's very modern and very real. There are stories ranging from swinging couples to teen drug addicts to a jail break. If you want to get inside the brains of the people you are living with in this messed up world, read this. Jaffe is a master at creating solid characters.

REVIEW QUOTES, September 14, 2001
This review is from: Beasts (Paperback)
"Political content and experimental technique mix powerfully in Jaffe's fourth book of fiction. The stories spring straight from newspaper headlines, yet are set in the framework of a medieval bestiary...His convincing portraits of the dispossessed [are] moving, insightful glimpses of the human spirit under stress." --The New York Times Book Review
"Something to crow about; it is a terrific collection of fictions." --American Book Review
BEASTS is "a dazzling display of innovative technique-each tale a different universe. These stories are amusing, deeply moving and generous offerings from a major talent." --Choice
