Thor, with Mick Hoffman - 'Beastwoman From The Center Of The Earth' (Anti-Matter), April 16, 2007
This review is from: Beastwomen From The Center Of The Earth (Audio CD)
Decent effort by the almight knight of 'cheese metal', the nearly unforgetable - Thor! Not as good as his 'Thor Against The World' disc (see my review) but still worth checking out if you have the time and desire. Cuts here I was semi-impressed with was the power-packed "Sleeping Giant", "Sirens Calling", the sedate "Hail Thor" and "Cry Of The Valkyrie". Line-up: Thor - vocals, Michael Hoffman - coordinator&vocals, Mike Frank and Frank Soda - guitars and Scoot Woolard - bass&samplings. Give it a shot.

With a Title Like That, It Has To Be Good....Right?, April 23, 2010
This review is from: Beastwomen From The Center Of The Earth (Audio CD)
I have to say I kind of knew what I was getting into with the purchase of "Beastwomen...", I've been a fan of Jon Mikl Thor's ever since I stumbled across "Rock n Roll Nightmare" at my local Mom & Pop video store in the late 80's.
Yes, this a cheezy album...how could it not be? If the title doesn't clue you in to the nature of the tunes found here, and the artwork leaves you intrigued as to what type of music is contained on the disk...then please avoid getting into police work.
Thor is all about being a 'Rock Warrior' (if you don't believe me...just give "Hail Thor" a listen)..and in this Rock Opera Concept Album he has to battle Beastwomen who have been living underground in Mushroom Land...(no I'm not making that up!). Throw in some Panther People and you get one heck of an underground showdown. Actually, I think the "Panther" song would be awesome to play at Carolina's home games...what better way for the struggling NFL team to rush onto the field and get their fans fired up?
Anyway, you get some decent power metal guitar work, a couple of tunes which are actually pretty catchy....and the glory of actually owning a disk called "Beastwomen from the Center of the Earth"...that is priceless, and seeing as how used copies are available for under $3...what are you waiting for?

Not Quite There, February 27, 2008
This review is from: Beastwomen From The Center Of The Earth (Audio CD)
This album struck me as kind of out of place, and almost scared me from future purchases. Previous releases, "Triumphant" and "Dogz II" were great, but this one sounded...odd. There are some good songs here, but I think it needs totally remixed, as it just doesn't sound quite right. Everything sounds like it has too much high end. The drums sound cheesy, and it loses it's heaviness feel. Like I said, it has some good songs, and is worth buying if you are a fan. But if you are new to Thor's style, don't start here.
Fortunately, his next two releases following this were huge leaps forward, and are on the must have list. Grab "Thos Against the World," and "Devastation of Musculation."
