5.0 out of 5 stars Count cards like a pro, July 12, 2010
This review is from: Beat Blackjack Now!: The Easiest Way to Get the Edge! (Paperback)
I love craps and wanted to learn to count cards. I have read many of Mr Scoblete's books and they are easy and fun to read as well as a teaching the right way to beat casino games.

I learned Speed Count, the counting method in this book, in about 5 hours and in the 6 months I have used Speed Count I have won some huge amounts of money!

I have tried other counting methods but I couldn't walk into a casino and use them becasue I didn't feel confident in them becasue they were so hard to learn. As the author states, "a 12 year old can learn Speed Count" and it is true. It is so simple to learn!

A must for anyone that wants to beat blackjack by learning card counting which is the only way to beat blackjack, and wants to learn card counting in an easy and simple way!

If your one of those players who want to go deeper than basic strategy and doesent have countless hours to practice this is your book. This book teaches how to gain a real and useful edge in black jack without braking your head, and the best thing is that it is so easy and simple you still enjoy the game, not like the other system where you really need to concentrate and cant have fun.It is way more difficult to spot this counting system too so you will be worried free from casino bosses and its even simpler than using your phone counter so you can now imagine the simple this system is,this book is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good review of simple system, May 10, 2011

I purchased "Golden Touch Blackjack" by this author a couple years ago. That was the book that first rolled out the Speed Count method. This new book, published in summer 2010, is basically a rehash of the original book. In fact entire chapters are the same. BUT THAT'S OK! The point is to teach the Speed Count system. Either book is fine for this purpose.

The Speed Count, used as suggested, captures about 75% of the accuracy of more complicated counting systems. It is very simple. It is the first system I've been able to execute in a casino and actually use, after having read many books on counting methods over the past 5 years. The system lets you know when to increase your bet and when a shoe has gone so bad south that you should actually stop playing. I would encourage you to buy this book and learn the method, if like me, you are interested in playing more profitably but don't have the time or inclination to spend 100+ hours learning hi-lo or another counting method. I'm not a pro--I visit local casinos every couple months. This system works for players like me.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy to use system, really worth a look, February 5, 2011

I've become some what obsessed with playing blackjack and wanted to learn how to get a better advantage over the casinos. I got this book and found it informative, easy to understand, and thorough. I learned to use the system in a surprisingly short period of time. The author backs up most all of his claims with facts obtained through computer simulations in addition to personal experience. There is some argument about whether his system is up to par with other more difficult card counting systems. I haven't tried it out at the casinos yet but it seems legit. I took off one star because some chapters are all anecdotes and tails of the author's experiences as a gambler.

This book is a must if you have ever wanted to learn a simple strategy for card counting and improving your play at BJ. I am one that did not like or find the Hi Low easy to use and required too much work at the table. this book shows you how to do all this while still enjoying the game and being social.

I need a second game when the dice just aren't cooperating, blackjack was my choice. Since Scoblete has never failed as far as information in his books, this was my number one choice. The information is accurate and easy to read. Now all I have to do is get to Vegas and "follow the instructions". I hope he's got more books coming out soon, this one is just great!

This is an easy read and easy to put to use book. I have read it a couple times and have used the info profitably in the casino. I will not be retiring any time soon from my day job but it does give you an edge on good games with good penetration. If you can do basic math you can use speed count. After reading this book you should be comfortable walking into a casino and playing BlackJack and knowing if it is a game worth playing or not. It also teaches you proper table edicate. You also get a strategy for spanish 21 which is also a low house hold game. I thought it could have been a little more detailed on certain subjects.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book but not perfect, April 27, 2011

I have read a bunch of books by Scoblete and have to say that this book is similar in many ways. Good prose, easy to understand, and typically reliable strategy made simple. I am currently working on practicing the speed count system including memorizing the OBS basic strategy for the games that can be found in Atlantic City.

My only gripe with the book is that the OBS and basic strategy charts are not perfect. Specifically giving strategy advice for what to do when you hold an 8 total on basic strategy is fine since anyone familiar with basic strategy knows this also covers hands of value less than 8. However this is not ever directly stated. What is more confusing is that OBS recommends a strategy of doubling against a 6 when you hold a value of 8. I assume this also means that you should do the same for hand values <8 but doubling against a dealer 6 when you hold say 5 doesn't seem to make sense to me. I am wondering if this strategy is correct or whether OBS is incomplete and the proper strategy is to hit against all dealer hands when holding 7 or below. Its confusing and atypical of the type of information Scoblete usually offers which is usually pretty well flushed out.

Another small quibble is that I would have liked to see some of the advanced strategies flushed out a bit further (Grifter's Gambit). This strategy increases variance and a bit more numerical analyis about the added advantage vs variance would have been nice. However, it was cool to see it included.

If not for these small basic issues I think the book would be 5 stars but I am going to deduct a star.

Can't wait to get this system out and into practice to see if it works.
Greg

5.0 out of 5 stars Beat Blackjack Now! The Easiest Way to Get the Edge!, December 6, 2011

This review is from: Beat Blackjack Now!: The Easiest Way to Get the Edge! (Paperback)
I'm fairly new to blackjack and initially tried the hi-low counting methods but found them to be difficult at best for me to learn & implement. Mr. Scoblete's counting method is by far the easiest I've ever used. Before actually using it in a casino, I practiced with it on on-line BJ practice sites. My worst-case session, starting out with a $100 bankroll, ended up with a paper win of $200 after approximately 45 minutes of play. My best case was winnings of over $2,800 over a 2-hour period. Being new to BJ, I play pretty conservatively. I recently played $5 tables in Las Vegas (yes they still exist!) and won $800 in 3 45-minute sessions over 3 days, starting out with a $300 bankroll. Of course, as Mr. Scoblete says, you're going to have losing streaks and I have, but my overall losses were always less than my wins. As he says in the book, this system's not quite as effective as hi-lo, but to me, it's a lot easier to learn, it works and it seems to be a lot less obvious to the eyes-in-the-sky & casino floor personnel. I also got his OBS strategy cards & DVD as I'm somewhat new and it made my learning his system a lot easier, but it's not necessary as the book does a very good job in teaching the system.
