howto for diabetes self management,
By Lynn Tompkins (upstate ny.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beat Diabetes!: How I Overcame Diabetes and You Can Too! (Paperback)
With humor this writer tells the story of how she manages her life and diabetes. She also informs the reader from where the infomation was obtained for those who may have questions or need additional facts. Much credit is given to her doctor and diabetic guru Dr. Richard K. Bernstein(diabetic of 50+ years and the originator of blood glucose testing to normalize blood sugars using the glucograph system), author of the book Diabetes Solutions who's advice and planning she followed. To say the least this book is motivational, informitive and very helpful. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs diabetic information, motivation or wants to manage their own health care.

New Diabetic Finds Hope,
By J.A. Schneiberg (West Bend, Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beat Diabetes!: How I Overcame Diabetes and You Can Too! (Paperback)
This book cut to the chase in allowing me to read- with a good dose of humor-all the things I really need to know about my new found disease. The gray highlite boxes are especially helpful and treat specific topics with concise information. I had just had my first appointment with a dietician, when my wife came home with this book. The book immediately began to answer many of the questions the medical staff at my local clinic raised. This book helps put an end to many of the myths about the treatment of this illness

Author is completely ignorant of Type 1 Diabetes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beat Diabetes!: How I Overcame Diabetes and You Can Too! (Paperback)
This book is obviously written from the perspective of a Type 2 diabetic, and the author seems completely ignorant in her lack of any perspective on the fact that people with Type 1 diabetes will always require insulin injections, thus always have to manage their blood sugar, regardless of changes they make to their diets, exercise regimen, etc. This book is pretty limiting.

A disappointment and embarrassment,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beat Diabetes!: How I Overcame Diabetes and You Can Too! (Paperback)
I gave this book to my mother, a recently-diagnosed type II diabetic. She gave it to her doctor who later advised her to toss it and stick with advice from medical professionals. Diabetics and their families need reliable medical advice, not armchair md's who teach themselves via internet searches and recommend popular, unproven theories of ways to "beat" serious health issues. Giving this book was an embarrassment.
