Excellent jazz covers sound like her own songs,

This review is from: The Beat Goes On (MP3 Download)
I found this album by looking for versions of "Sunshine Superman". Emilie-Claire Barlow's version sounded so jazzy and different from any of the versions I'd heard before that I called up the album and listened to all the song samples. I knew quite a few of the songs but her versions sounded, like her "Sunshine Superman", very jazzy and very different from what I knew. I couldn't help myself and downloaded the album. I played it right away and again as soon as it ended.
This doesn't sound like she's in a studio recording this for you to buy, it sounds like she's in the room with you, singing it for you and whoever may be with you, her band right with her. There are two songs in French, as well as some Donovan, Dylan, B.J. Thomas, Nancy Sinatra, Neil Sedaka, the Shirelles and others. None of these sound like covers. They sound as natural here as if Barlow had written them herself. Very well done.
