5.0 out of 5 stars Has it REALLY been 17 years???-Nah cause I'm only 20....
I consider myself one, along with many others, as one of Rick's biggest fans, following his career from about the time I was 10 and up through the present day.

And for us teens in the 80's who were Rick fans this gave us a chance to see him in concert, I have seen him a total of four times live- in my life time-- twice as a teen, twice as an adult

I consider myself one, along with many others, as one of Rick's biggest fans, following his career from about the time I was 10 and up through the present day.

And for us teens in the 80's who were Rick fans this gave us a chance to see him in concert, I have seen him a total of four times live- in my life time-- twice as a teen, twice as an adult
and each time you see Rick, even today the shows have the same energy and vibe as "Beat of the Live Drum" captures in 1985.

And as any money challenged teen from 1985- (no money for actual concert tix) will tell you,
having Rick, in concert, even via the TV, got adolescent girls
what I have called ( and possibly many others)Through a "Rick Fix".

And also I believe that for those of you that have not seen this
concert on video either because you just hadn't had the opportunity to see it
it, or you weren't a fan of Rick's in the 80's,

Give it a shot because, Rick is the consummate show- man with
consummate skill... of never leaving an audience disppointed.

As far as previous comments (by other posters) being written
that Rick uses a vulgar gesture I have watched this on tape many times and I have not seen it, perhaps the poster was looking for things, to be able to post negative comments about Rick.

My opinion is that Rick has ALWAYS been respectful to his audience
and that is why he is so great to see live, he really connects with his audience and seems to be grateful to everyone who comes out to see his shows.

Thanks to all whom read post.

PS- BTW I'll actually be 34 in October
but this concert takes me back to being 17 again
AH nostalgia...

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Performance, July 2, 2002
By A Customer
This performance had nothing to do with the 80s... just go see one of his concerts today. He's just as energetic and vibrant as he's been for over 20 years.

I dunno what that other person was referring to, but Rick was not "crawling around" as if to compare to some of today's bubble-gum pop princess-types... he would get down on the stage to get closer to the fans. And there was nothing like a "middle finger" in the manner that viewer conveyed.

This concert is good clean fun with a playlist full of memorable songs performed by the man that made them great. Good light show, good special effects, and it even incorporates some videos fo the "Tao" release. It's been a long time coming and it's worth the wait.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like a fine wine...Rick Springfield gets better with age!, October 7, 2002

I remember when this video came out on VHS in 1985 I rented it numerous times back then I couldn't afford to buy it. I never thought I would give this concert less than 5 stars but seeing him again in concert in 2002 has truly been an eye opening experience. I updated all my old tapes with CD's and have been looking for this particular DVD. I am glad that I do have this to add to my collection but I was dissapointed in the fact that he never even talked to all the screaming fans..he was more into putting on an excellent concert and it was too choregraphed Rick seems to be somewhere else. I know I am being bold in making these statements but he didnt seem to be enjoying the stage like he does now I just see such a HUGE difference in his performances now. He is so personable and he acts happy to be on stage smiling, cracking jokes, bringing fans up on stage, going out in the crowd with his guitar and singing with such passion. I hope he puts out another concert DVD soon that expresses his recent concert success. Don't get me wrong it was very enjoyable to see this concert again it brought back a lot of memories from the 80's I just feel that he is getting better with age and you can't always say that about past teen idols!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Class Act All The Way!, January 22, 2004
Vonda Mills wrote a review not even worth reading. She evidently doesnt have a clue. This performance is Spectacular and there is nothing pathetic about the 80's.The music scene was so inventive and diverse,a time period which will be truly missed.Rick rips through all his greatest hits with bursting energy and his backing band is top notch. The video effects are cutting edge for the time.Rick was and always will be a pop rock icon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 80s Show!, July 2, 2002
By A Customer
Having only recently become a Rick Springfield fan, I wasn't too sure what to expect from this DVD. Having just watched it, I can confirm that I'm now a bigger fan than before! Rick had an incredible amount of energy to be able to jump around, dance, play guitar & piano, and give a very strong vocal performance for the entire show.

Several tracks from TAO (Dance This World Away, State Of The Heart, Celebrate Youth) are music videos rather than live performances, and they add a sense of variety to the show. Personally, I would have liked to have had a few more videos added as bonus features, but that's besides the point.

Rick manages to shift the mood between his very personal and touching song about his father's death (My Father's Chair), and an excellent performance of Jessie's Girl in seconds!

I would highly recommend this DVD to all fans of 80s power pop, and anyone who wonders why Rick Springfield was such a success!

4.0 out of 5 stars Go figure, June 28, 2002
By A Customer
This is a great concert! This was made in '85 to help promote his album TAO which included the songs Celebrate Youth and State of the Heart. Was he too wild? No! The wildest thing he did was a somersault during Don't Talk to Strangers. Be sure and cover the kid's eyes during that. No foul language or lewd acts of any kind (middle finger?? what?). Even if he did, which he didn't, he's a ROCK SINGER! Wow. As far as looking funny - I guess she makes it up as she goes. Besides, I don't think anybody cares to remember what they were wearing 17 years ago. Why write a review on the same item twice and say practically the same thing? Someone needs to grow up and move on. I've noticed that after reading her "see more about me". I didn't know the Monkees were such music icons.

I remember first buying this video, when it first came out in 1985, on VHS tape! I loved it! I am so glad it finally came out in DVD format!!

Simply put--Rick Springfield at his ultimate best!!

Recorded in 1985, Rick is promoting his Tao album. Includes music videos for "Celebrate Youth", "Dance This Worls Away", and "State Of The Heart"

A great concert video that is now FINALLY available on DVD.

This is worth having for several reasons, but I would have bought it just to have the video for DANCE THIS WORLD AWAY. What a classic. It's a shame this was never in heavy rotation on MTV. This song should have been a big, big hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG! My favorite concert video from the 80!, November 28, 2008
This review is from: The Beat of the Live Drum (DVD)
As a young, impressionable girl I found the excitement of Rick Springfield and his music almost like a hug from an old friend. I became aware of him on General Hospital and fell in love with him, just like everyone else. The thing I appreciate most about Rick is how his music transported me to another place when my life was at it's worst. I could listen to him sing about losing his dad, losing his girl, how love could solve all the problems in the world...and I would be taken away from all the crappy things going on in my life.

I first saw him in concert in 1986. OMG, I'll never forget his piano solo as he performed "My Father's Chair" for all his screaming fans. The concert hall became completely silent as he sang "...now it's 3 years on and I still feel he'll come home, we'll be alright...".

Having lost my daddy in 1981 (he was 36, I was 13), that song just grabbed me. I could relate. Rick was my friend.

When this particular video came out, I rented the VHS over and over. I begged the video store owner to let me buy it, but it was his only copy. This was back in the day when movies were $80 or more and only available on VHS...DVD was unheard of in my house!

Just a few years ago, when this DVD was first released, my beloved hubby purchased it for me. It was the sweetest, most thoughtful present anyone ever gave me!

The concert has some really great moments! One of my faves is when Rick almost falls off the fog machine while performing "Bop 'Til Ya Drop". LOL!

If you're a Rick Springfield fan, you must add this to your collection. You'll love it!
