5.0 out of 5 stars how to beat loneliness fast, December 5, 2001

This review is from: How to Beat Loneliness Fast (Paperback)
This is one of the best books on the subject of loneliness that I know of. The author presents numerous easy and practical ways you can use immediately to drive away loneliness. There are even many fun ways to deal with this problem!

The author explains clearly the puzzling aspects of loneliness and points out pitfalls to avoid so that the reader will have a thorough understanding of and a good grip about this prevalent problem. You'll feel that the burden inside you is finally released. It did that for me.

Unlike other books on this subject that don't show a clear-cut agenda for the reader to follow in dealing with loneliness successfully, this book does. It walks you through step-by-step until loneliness is no longer a troubling aspect in your life.

Also, this book is unique. According to the author, anyone who suffers from loneliness, regardless of the reason, can learn the effective techniques and becomes self-sufficient in fighting off loneliness quickly. Even if you are shy or don't care much about social interactions, you'll find many easy ways the author demonstrates in this book to get rid of loneliness fast.

This book has helped turn my life around. I can't believe how quickly I was able to overcome the problem of loneliness in my life. Now I'm hardly ever troubled by loneliness anymore. What a great relief!

I recommend this book to anyone who feels lonely or knows someone who does. I hope you will soon say good-bye to loneliness just like I did. Good luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be helpful as a stop-gap, but very short on long-term, September 5, 2003

This review is from: How to Beat Loneliness Fast (Paperback)
I do not wish to be uncharitable, but the first thing that struck me about this book was that it was probably not written by a native speaker of the language. Although it does not contain misspellings, it contains an alarming number of ungrammatical sentences and awkward langauge, which a native speaker would probably not have used. It would simply have been nice if the author had taken then time to run the manuscript by a friend who was a native speaker.

Beyond this, the book takes, as its approach to solving loneliness, the listing of a great many temporary solutions which would, indeed, help to assuage the pain of loneliness for a while--such as playing video games, doing activities in view of other people, and so on. She is right to point out that loneliness is in great part an _inner_ phenomenon. However, she pretty much stops there, declining to discuss what factors might cause loneliness (both personal and societal), and what one might do to heal it.

For a book that deals directly with these deeper aspects of the issue, I strongly recommend _Breaking Out of Loneliness_ by Jerry Greenwald. Out of print, published around 1980.
