5.0 out of 5 stars CD
My son Loves this CD. Although the lyrics seems to be "basic", the most favorite song on this CD is Walk it out.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Beat'n Down Yo Trashcan" is more like it
I'm from the south. Georgia to be exact. The place of marvelous talents such as TLC, T.I., Usher, Ludacris, and Outkast . But also the place of D4L, Dem Franchize Boyz, Young Jeezy, Yung Joc, and now, UNK. This CD Beat'n Down Yo Block is a total piece of garbage, and I'm gon break it done to you, as simple as I can...

The lyrics.... childish...

The lyrics.... childish.... simple-minded.... and wack!!!

The beats.... bland.... boring.... and worthless!!!

Overall.... WORTHLESS

To get technical... Beat'n Down Yo Block is a CD with not a lot going on for it. The beats all sound the same using the same synth and 808s as well as patterns in some ocassions. (Note to UNK: Next time (if there even is a next time), try not to let the same guy produce every beat.) The lyrics are babyish, bland and wack, like they were written by a 5 yr old in 10 mins. The songs point-blank are stupid, and pathetic. Usually talking mainly about the a dance move. Let me break down some of the songs...

track #3 - Walk It Out... Last summer in Atlanta, this was the anthem. You couldn't change to a hip hop radio station in the A and not hear it. It was the party starter for cookouts, pool parties, or just to bob yo head to. I'll admit it, I could remember enjoying it; then it went commercial, and lost its touch. Now, it makes me want to bang my hand across the tv when I see the video. Now, hating it, I finally analyzed the song. It is the most annoying song on the album. The FruityLoop beat totally complements the idiotic rhymes the scrilly-voice of Unk spits. I don't see how I made throughout the summer w/o losing my mind. Must have been the 99 degree UV rays from the sun effecting my brain... Go figure!!!

track #5 - 2 step.... This is the second single from the album UNK says... I really, REALLY, hope not. This song is the exact copy of Walk It Out. The beat is SOOO annoying. The Staticy Synth's and (Bell synth that remind me of W.I.O!!!!), definitely will give you a headache. His lyric are once again lacking, especially when he repeats the same 2 phrases 50 times, "Now Gon And Two Step" "Now Get Jiggy With It". The song is very much like Walk it Out, except set to another lame beat by DJ Montay.

track #10 - thinkin of you... This song would've been alright if Jazze Pha would've shut the hell up, and just produced. God, I never would've thought I could think less of Jazze, being one of the best producer Atlanta has to offer, until I heard this. Just cause yo daddy was a singer doesn't mean you are, Jazze. This could've been the jugular song of this CD, and it went down the drain... The beat is actually not that bad, even though Jazze didn't produce it, the ochestra synths, and funk guitar synth makes this beat the best this CD had to offer.

track # 13 - this is how we do... That song made this CD automatically lose a star. This song has no reason of being on this LP. If you gon' call your CD hood music, you can't have a peppy song that sounds like a nursery rhyme, and an 8yr old gets more time on it than you do talking about big wheels, and coloring books. LOL. The song was produced by Big Korey, and 8 yr old. Kudos. But definitely stay in school, WORST SONG ON THE WHOLE ALBUM... PERIOD!!!!

Overall, this CD is WACK. It will only amuse you for only a short amount of time. So if you want a CD with mediocore FL Studio beats, wack lyrics, and just stupid then your in the right place... If your look for a CD with longevity, and Good, you should definitely look the other way.

I AIN'T HATING, JUST TELLING THE TRUTH

1.0 out of 5 stars More garbage from the south., January 8, 2007

"Walk it out" is up there with other terrible tracks such as "laffy taffy" and "lean wit it rock wit it". Music like this makes me want to hug my real hip hop CDs from Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Pac, and Wu Tang. This is a joke. Some southern music has a nice beat to it, but just has mediocre lyrics. This, is awful. The lyrics make me want to pull my hair out, and the beat it just decent. This is another no-talent loser trying to make a quick buck. Please, for the love of Hip Hop, DO NOT BUY THIS CD. Go pick up the new Nas CD, or the new Ludacris cd. Luda remains to be the only superb rapper from the south. TI is in second. Everyone else is a disgrace to this country. If we dont kill the "crunk", then "Hip Hop is Dead".

2.0 out of 5 stars Stick to deejaying, Unk, August 26, 2007
This review is from: Beat N Down Yo Block (Audio CD)
DJ Unk has apparently made a name for himself spinning in various clubs around Atlanta, and he was even able to score a hit all across the board with "2 Step". Still, nobody picked up his album Beat'n Down Yo Block, and after listening to it, I understand why.

The main problem is Unk's style. He sounds like a combination of Chingy and Rich Boy, so that should tell you what kind of quality you'll be looking forward to. And then there're the singles: "Walk It Out" is okay, but "2 Step" sounds way too dated, not to mention that Unk keeps talking about getting jiggy, which, as said best in an episode of The Steve Harvey Show, hasn't been cool since 1997.

Most of the guest stars are unknowns, but after listening to them, you'll wish they stayed unknown. "This Is How We Do" features some talentless junior emcees, and "Say Yes" features a guy that sounds like he's battling laryngitis. The only guest spot that really works is Backbone on "Fresh Dressed". And some of the songs suffer from generic choruses, like "Hold On H*", "Ayyy" and the obligatory song about getting lifted, "Smokin' Sticky Sticky". But even worse is "Flatline", which is so excessively loud that it makes Beyoncé's "Ring the Alarm" sound like easy listening music.

And of course there are the sexual songs, but they also fail to impress, like the hidden track following "Smokin' Sticky Sticky" and the aforementioned "Say Yes". There's also the all-too-familiar "Back It Up", which is also strange in that a woman is telling ladies to do that during the chorus. And another thing, this album has 19 tracks yet is only an hour long, which means that there are a lot of very short songs that go nowhere. Basically, don't pick up Beat'n Down Yo Block because it'll most likely have you beatin' down your stereo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for its Purpose., March 27, 2010
This review is from: Beat N Down Yo Block (Audio CD)
I like all genres of music.
And can pretty much enjoy things from any style.
Unk is no different.
His music makes you want to get up and dance.
Or bob your head while you are driving.
I keep a copy of this at my corporate slave job so I will not be bored to death of
people having conversations about trivial things.

Unk, D4L, and the artists like them will always be on my playlist when I want
something light and nutty to pep me up.
Someone can majorly make me mad, I pop in this cd and after some moving, I cool off.

Great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's not bad, I gave it 4 stars for encouragement it actually deserves a three., November 7, 2009

This review is from: Beat N Down Yo Block (Audio CD)
This album is okay, it's great for parties, for gettin' jiggy with it. It's actually one of the less annoying cds in it's branch and Unk is doing it big representing the OC (Oomp Camp) to the fullest. I've had this for 2 years and I listen to it about 3 times a year (sometimes less). It has great bass, it's fun music. The biggest problems this album has are : 1-the fillers. Way too many wastes of sound on this one. 2-Alot of the choruses are generic, offensive & downright stupid. 3-the features, only featuring I was feeling was DG Yola (The best song on the album "Don't Make Us" great remix of a great movie score SAW) 4-Subject matter, why would you put a song like Thinkin' Of You on here & Smokin' Sticky? first off thinkin of you is an okay song but ruins the party vibe of the cd & smokin sticky, I mean in most clubs you can't even smoke and when people want to hear a party album I don't think they intend to sit on a couch & smoke "Kush". This is great for partying and I would let this play a thousand times before Flo-Rida or Soulja Boy or Gucci Mane or (new) Young Jeezy for that matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars dj unk, March 16, 2008
My students like this music so I had to check it out. It had the promised "walk it out" and 3 others that I really enjoyed. I'm new to the music and I bet after more time I'd like it all. Good album, clean version which I like, thanks for expanding my listening.
