HOT NEW ORLEANS FOLK-SINGER SHAD WEATHERSBY, February 22, 2007

SHAD WEATHERSBY
THE BEATEN PATH
Musician Shad Weathersby is a New Orleans native son who has never been driven away by hurricanes or a need to seek fame and fortune elsewhere. Even though his city is best-known for jazz, Dixieland and R&B, Shad has always loved folk and Americana music best (Bob Dylan, The Band, James Taylor, Tom Waits) and for the past three decades Weathersby has been one of Louisiana's top acoustic-guitar-playing singer-songwriters. THE BEATEN PATH is Weathersby's fifth album. Weathersby's original, acoustic-based songs lyrically often reflect his Louisiana heritage as he sings about a French Quarter bar, storms and hurricanes, local characters, gecko lizards, and Halloween there a century ago. Shad's quirky lyrics also cover love, religious faith, and newly-emerging, Level-Four, species-jumping lethal viruses. It is a rootsy folk-pop CD by an artist who has no qualms about being off-center and outside the mainstream. The music, however, has a timeless quality and much of it seems like it could have been recorded a hundred years ago or yesterday.
