There is no shortage of books exhorting entrepreneurs to attract new customers. Trussell, a syndicated columnist for the New York Times , discusses the importance of public relations and describes the pitfalls many companies make in establishing credibility in the market place. The appendixes work well, providing sample press releases and communication plans. Overall, however, the book does not contribute anything original. There is no discussion of using competitive intelligence to generate business leads, and scant attention is given to direct mail or telemarketing techniques. Trussell's book also lacks direction. The 150 techniques mentioned in the title are never clearly delineated, and one wonders where one idea ends and another begins. A better choice would be Jane Applegate's Succeeding in Small Business: The 101 Toughest Problems and How To Solve Them ( LJ 4/15/92). --M. Uri Toch, P.L. of Cincinnati and Hamilton Cty.
