5.0 out of 5 stars A better harp cd you can't find, January 7, 2001
This review is from: Beating Harps (Audio CD)
The intertwining of metal-strung and gut-strung harps is magic. This and their first album "Delighted With Harps" are my favorites, but all they have done is wonderful. From the Poozies (particulary with Sally Barker) to the Clan Alba cd, these two deliver the real thing. If you like real celtic harp music, buy Sileas - you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Great variety of music covered with virtuosity!, September 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Beating Harps (Audio CD)
I had a friend send me a tape with songs from both _Beating Harps_ and _Play on Light_ on it, and I was hooked! The different styles of songs covered, and the quality of the musicianship combine to create one of the best artists/duets I've heard in a long time. I highly recommend Síleas to anyone interested in hearing Scottish harp music, or indeed anything "Celtic" that isn't a mass-produced or mass-marketed album that goes in the "Irish" category but would probably fit better in "New Age" or "Pop" or "Pseudo-Celtic". This is FABULOUS stuff!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, February 14, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Beating Harps (Audio CD)
I've had this CD for a couple of months now. I left it in my vehicle without any other CDs and left it there for a month. I seem to be going backwards through their recordings, I started out with "Play on Light", which is a phenomenal recording. I can't remember all the tunes, but their version of Robert Burn's "Call the Yows" haunts me. They utilize the gut-strung harp, wire-strung harp and the auto-harp as well as their own voices. There is no orchestra backing them up, no band back-up, just these two incrediblly talented ladies. They also use a discordant style of singing, they can both hit the same note, but occasionally sing slightly off-pitch of each other (intentionally) to great effect.

I wonder if 200 years from now if Micheal Jackson and Whitney Houston songs will still be played. I doubt it, but I'm sure that Burn's collection of music will still inspire talented people to play and interpret his. These two women should be remembered for their interpretation, it remains true to the original, but injects their own stamp of artistry on it, as well as the introduction of the autoharp, which was not available to musicians 200 years ago.
