About the Author

When Motez Bishara is not rushing to hit another music gig or sporting event, he spends his time in London managing an institutional stock portfolio and freelancing as a journalist. On the side, he tries to revive the Notting Hill hippie movement through Ashtanga yoga and an acoustic guitar. This is his first book.

I was curious to read this after seeing it pop up in the twittersphere a few times: I love basketball and with tickets becoming out of reach of us mere mortals I really wanted to learn how to go see some live games without taking out a second mortgage. I have to say the cover was not really enticing me to open up Pandora's box, but I thought I'd give it a go. Wow, was I surprised how amazing this book actually is. It is so much more than what I expected. This is not just a book on tricks to buy cheap tickets (even though it does do what it says on the tin, and possibly in the most imaginative way possible), this is a book of short stories that make you smile and make you laugh. The excitement of the game is almost palpable chapter after chapter, and you want to go and follow in the author's footsteps so that you too can have as much fun before and after games as he did. As soon as the book arrived I thought I'd just flip through it to see what it was like, but to my surprise after reading the Prologue I was hooked, and I didn't put it down until the Acknowledgements. I can't wait for the season to start up again so I can test out some ticket buying techniques.
Really, though, this is an awesome read not just for sports fans, but for anyone who loves a well written story.

I have never been to an NBA game and have only fleeting knowledge of some of the major stars, but this did not stop me from really enjoying this book. I would recommend it to any casual sports fan. Part road trip, it's of interest to anyone who's ever had any interest in acquiring seemingly hard-to-get tickets. The author has a whimsical style - think of a younger, cooler version of Bill Bryson - and also a great sense of humour. However, he also has some serious points to make about the finances of basketball, which have implications for other professional sports.

As a lifelong sports fan, I found this book highly entertaining. It is an easy read that anyone who has every tried to go to a sports event on a budget can relate to. Motez does a great job of taking the reader on his journey across the country watching NBA games. His tangles with scalpers and the secondary market are interesting and informative.

This book is great for sports fans who love attending games in person and want to read about one man's journey to do so on a budget.

Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down. The book explains the many means of purchasing tickets for NBA games without spending ridiculous amounts of money. Motez adds in many captivating short stories and experiences while obtaining these tickets, all of which make for a wonderful read. This book is highly recommended for any sports fan.

This book is a fun and educational read. It provides not only a often hilarious look into a journey across the NBA from the perspective of fan, but also a very valuable guide to the ticket buyer in terms of procuring tickets based upon ticket economics and various other factors. Motez does an excellent job providing insight into each basketball town he visits and individual games. I learned a great deal about how NBA ticket pricing works. Where I found it to be most useful thou was as an instructional guide to ticket procurement - a how to on judging demand and dealing in the ticket aftermarket. I would recommend it for both fans of the NBA as well as to anyone who attends live events in general.
