So much more than a waste of money...,
By
This review is from: Beating Ovarian Cancer: How To Overcome The Odds And Reclaim Your Life (Paperback)
I have never taken the time to write a book review before; this is my first. Let this be a testament to how upset I am with this purchase and read. I forced myself to complete about half of this book before I threw it in the recycle bin. My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer about three weeks ago and I purchased this book based on the title and reviews - big mistake. Through the first half of the book (at least), the author mentions several times how "unusual" it is for woman to survive ovarian cancer and it really points to all of the reasons why. A really downer - to put it mildly. Well, I'm glad for her that she was able to beat it but I was really hoping and expecting to read something inspiring, something that could help me provide guidance to my mom as well as hope that people do and can beat this cancer. I was actually hopeful prior to reading this book that my mom had a chance. It's been a few days since I tossed the book so I'm starting to build up hope again based on other survivor stories we've come across. But I would warn anyone that I strongly believe the other reviews are written by friends of the author (one review even indicates as such) and if you're looking for a book that will give you hope - keep looking.

Its all about attitude and awareness,
This review is from: Beating Ovarian Cancer: How To Overcome The Odds And Reclaim Your Life (Paperback)
Chris Bledy's book on Ovarian Cancer is not a sob read. Rather it is a testament to one's will and attitude. Anyone can read this book, it isn't just for those with cancer. In fact, while Chris writes about different treatments and therapies, she never says you 'must' do it. The main message is don't give up, be open to try new things, and be aware of your attitiude (spirit) throughout. Amazing how a dog, grandchild, or long walk can improve your attitiude. For those with cancer, the suggestions are solid. For those having surgery years ago, the suture paragraph is a must if your having issues. Please, please do yourself a favor and read this!

Courageous Story of How One Woman Faced "The Silent Killer",
By Rick Rodgers "President of Rodgers & Associates" (Lancaster, PA USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Beating Ovarian Cancer: How To Overcome The Odds And Reclaim Your Life (Paperback)
Image that you're seeing your doctor for what you think is a routine exam. Perhaps you believe your symptoms are nothing more than the beginning of menopause. Certainly nothing serious. You live a healthy lifestyle. You're not overweight. You exercise regularly and are not working in a high stress job. Only a week later you find out you have ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer has a high mortality rate because it is often not diagnosed until it is in the late stages. Even though aggressive treatment might temporarily remove all the cancer cells, recurrence is nearly inevitable. How can you not feel like you've been handed a death sentence? What do you do to keep yourself from losing hope? Chris Bledy has written a marvelous book about her incredible battle with ovarian cancer. Originally diagnosed in 2000, her cancer returned in a few short years and she faced another round of surgeries and chemotherapy. How she pulled her life together and took control of her health and her life is an inspirational story that everyone can learn from. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone that is battling cancer or has a loved one facing cancer. But this book is also a good template for learning how to cope with any of the difficulties life throws our way. I think you will be inspired by the way Chris went about educating herself about her disease and then purposely making changes in her life to improve her chances of survival. -- Rick Rodgers, CFP®, author of The New Three-Legged Stool: A Tax Efficient Approach to Retirement Planning

This review is from: Beating Ovarian Cancer: How To Overcome The Odds And Reclaim Your Life (Paperback)
This book was one of the most helpful books I have ever read since I developed Ovarian Cancer 6 years ago, and I have read many ! The odds for beating ovarian cancer the coventional way alone is very rare, OVCA is one of the deadliest cancers there is ! I believe there would be MANY more survivors of ALL types of cancer if we followed what Chris Bledy did. She is amazing.
She has given me renewed hope! Good luck to you all!

This review is from: Beating Ovarian Cancer: How To Overcome The Odds And Reclaim Your Life (Paperback)
Chris Bledy's 'Beating Ovarian Cancer' is an inpiration to all who have been faced with a cancer diagnosis. After being diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer I found myself being uplifted by the authors words. Other books only gave me grim statistics and scenarios that left me worried and depressed. Chris Bledy gave me the hope I needed to hear and many practical suggestions on how to cope with this illness and dare to believe that I can beat it. I find myself referring to it over and over again like a helpful friend as I move along my road to recovery. She really shows you how to 'reclaim your life' and not let this diagnosis take it over. I can't thank her enough for writing this book. Olga Nugara Toronto, Canada.
