About the Author

Vassilios Kotronias has been the best Greek chess player for the past two decades, and the first Greek to obtain the GM title in 1990. He has represented Greece and Cyprus in many Olympiads and other team events. His dynamic style of play and good theoretical preparation have helped him maintain a high position in the world rankings whilst he has also acted as a coach of players like Short, Topalov and Shirov on various occasions. His previous books for Batsford are Beating The Caro-Kan and Beating The Flank Openings. Andreas Tzermiadianos is an experienced Greek IM and professional coach. He has been combining these qualities successfully for several years. He is a dedicated theoretician of the game and a dangerous practical player who already has three GM norms. This is his first book. Both authors live in Athens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical repertoire book, March 19, 2007
This review is from: Beating the Petroff (Paperback)
It's the typical opening book. Not too much material, not too deep analysis, but a good job. Of course this book is from white point of view, as the title tell us.
Kotronias go on just analyzing games in a kind of repertoire tree, but the analysis are good.
I've just prepared myself for a game against a 2000 fide player. I have spent just 3 hours on the main line after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.d4 d5 6.Bd3 Bd6 7.0-0 0-0 8.c4 c6 (i knew my opponent played this line, but i didn't know how he play against 9.cxd5). In the game at move 13 my opponent went out of theory playing a weak move, i entered a clear advantage position, knowing the basic ideas of the line better then black.
(Eventually i didn't won since it was a team game and the draw was ok for us.)
