Book Description

I am not proclaiming to be an expert on the topic of bullying. I am merely sharing my research after my son was bullied at school at the age of seven. When your son tells you that he wants to die at this very young age due to another child’s behaviour, as a parent/caregiver, you will do anything to learn all about bullying, the signs and the preventative measures. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to help my son through this situation because there are many parents out there that become aware of the situation when it is just too late and the results are just devastating.

I was also bullied as a child and still have very raw emotions about what I went through. What led me to writing these guides was that I was told that a child couldn’t be forced to play with my son, but I truly believe that they have it wrong.

All schools, governments and any organisations all over the world should adopt the following in their policies and this can be adapted to any part of life in general:

‘You do not have to like me, but you must respect me and all that represents me and who I am!’

I just want society to get back to the basics of being respectful to everyone and anyone. It’s not just about giving your seat up on the train or bus anymore; it is about having respect for those around you in every part of life.

Bullying has become so rampant that it is almost a regular feature in the media and more often than not, it has a really sad and desperate ending.

We all have the right to feel safe. Your school, college, home and/or your workplace should be free of violence and bullying.

My ultimate goal in writing these guides is to empower those who are being bullied or those who know someone that is being bullied. These guides are simple but effective and will assist in ‘Beating the bullies’ – lets stand together and stop the bullies.

Bullying is widespread and occurs often in various settings including the workplace, universities and schools. These guides cover many aspects of bullying including what it is, where and why it happens, how it differs from harassment, as well as the rights of victims and the responsibilities of people in positions of authority such as school principals and employers. A wide range of topics associated with bullying have been discussed.

There are various laws and workplace agreements which cover the acts of bullying. Schools and universities all have their own policy on the subject listing procedures to be followed should bullying be discovered or a complaint be made. These guides explain the laws and policies along with the various steps victims or the victim’s family can take should bullying take place. A person’s rights, including those of a child, must be stated in a way that makes everyone well aware of bullying and knows how it can and should be handled. Of course prevention is better than cure and awareness programs educating children and adults about bullying as well as how it can be prevented and avoided are all discussed in these guides. It is divided into sections so employers, teachers and parents are able to read specific areas relevant to their circumstances.

I enjoyed the content of the book and was impressed at the information it provided on bullying. I think mothers of all young children need to have this as a guide to help their children. It captures the epidemic of bullying very well.
