Review

From buying bonds to property, why the Xmas "tradition" is not worth the trouble, the futility of work (as in jobs), how the government is not at all concerned with your welfare, the vanity of having children, scams, effectively bitching to get that for which one has paid, food, clothing, housing, investments, parental & peer pressure, and many other aspects of life that consider greatly in the difference of living or merely existing. Much of Beating the System is comprised of common sense, but too many people need to be brought to their senses when it comes to the cost of living.

The appendix is worth a mention, too, for there are brief essays, written by other folk, that corroborate with philosophical testimony the feasible ideas of living frugally and not "working." I wholly recommend this fabulous book. It is a great investment. -- Angry Thoreauan, Issue #15

4.0 out of 5 stars Work is optional!, July 12, 2001

This review is from: Beating the System: The Next American Revolution (Paperback)
This is a very good book that explains exactly how one can prepare for and achieve an early retirement. Obviously some sacrifices are necessary, but Mr. Roth shows how we can still live well and ignore the alarm clock forever. I would say this is a nice confirmation of another favorite- "Your Money Or Your Life."

2.0 out of 5 stars Stream of consciousness to the Nth degree, October 31, 2011

This review is from: Beating the System: The Next American Revolution (Paperback)
This book is just "ok." As far as the topic goes, many other books have been written about it, including and especially Your Money or Your Life, by Dominguez and Robin. This book covers the same concept, but is lean on facts, heavy on personal anecdotes, and the stream of consciousness writing seems to go on and on. I barely finished the book.
