5.0 out of 5 stars passed the "Jaw Dropping Test" with flying colors
This has to be the most beautiful and emotionaly engaging DJish album of the decade. yea really. It touched me. And that does not happen often. And the "hidden tracks" are the stuff of late night epiphany and dreams un-recorded. I'm not a critic, thank god, but I know what music is supposed to do to your soul when you listen to it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Beatitude is exceptionally Beautiful
'Beatitude' is similar to other exceptionally good electronica albums, eg, 'Fantasma' by Cornelius, 'The Contino Sessions' by Death In Vegas. Basically upping the ante by upping the range of the number of influences which can be squeezed into one CD, eg, funk, rock, 60's music, ambient, jazz, turntablism, folk, etc, all glued together with underlying beats. There's no...

And the "hidden tracks" are the stuff of late night epiphany and dreams un-recorded. I'm not a critic, thank god, but I know what music is supposed to do to your soul when you listen to it. These guys are really doing the most innovative stuff with electronic music, and not just innovative, but beautiful, romantic, emotional, all things fuming with love, chaos, radio towers and fifty thousand watts of power. This album is a gift to you, except it and dont wait another second to get it, it will make your day, it will make your year. I'm totally serious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Sequel, September 23, 2003

It's like if you mix the soundtrack to Clockwork Orange with Royksopp's Melody AM and add a dash of Big Beat ala Fatboy Slim with some Mobyish vocals. There's a huge variety of music on this album, I must admit. One song sounds like a church rave. Another song sounds like it belongs on a Tom Jones tribute album. There's a ton of variety, which can be a bad thing. But in this case, I'd say it's good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spanning the globe in one CD, February 3, 2005
This review is from: Beatitude (Audio CD)
I first bought this CD a full year before I really understood what a collection it is. It starts with a funky, Greyboy-meets-Crystal Method track, then expands into Motown soul ("Girl!"), Blaxploitation funk ("Daddy's Blazin BBQ") and eventually into Turkish/Arabian/Indian pop ("Numa"). There are sexy downtempo grooves with silky female voices ("Lying Peacefully" and "Cruel Youth"), but for me, the crowning moment is "Vamos Muchachos," a rousing Mexican art rock tune that is absolutely irresistible. If you like the variety expressed by acts like Tutto Matto, Groove Armada, and Rae & Christian, this could well make your "Best" list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five letters says it all..."FUNKY"!!!, October 8, 2003

"Hey babe, Whats your Sign?" is your introduction to Pepe Deluxes topper SuperSound. After a few listens you wont stop groovin to the material on their new disk. Add together all their signature ingredients of funky lounge & a groovy beat and this will have any nondancer shaking their rumps. Just as the funk of "Just Let Go" sucks you in Track 2 continues with more of the Pepe energy "Just Let Go" delivering that funk that takes you to that higher state of mind. There really isn't much filler on this 14 track disk and even shows you their talent on the rare groove number "Girl." Dig a little deeper into this disk and you'll hear their Morricone influence on "Black Caddilac" then back on up for some serious rockin funk with "Indifference." Though you will hear a mix bag of sounds on this disk you'll never get bored. Just as I thought I heard all their suprises comes the funky Bollywood number on "Cruel Youth." This has got to be my favorite CD of the month perhaps year so go out and run to buy this gem of gems!

Great stuff! If you liked Super sound......if you felt like it showed serious potential.....here is the payoff! I'm on song 11 as I write this, and it's blowing my mind! Very very solid.

Mostly sample-driven slow groove stuff......funky and experimental sounding with a good beat. I love how they start with a foundation of drum and bass and then add all sorts of interesting things on top, including some fantastic vocals. I'm not sure if the vocals are samples or recorded specifically for the album, but they fit really well. The album mixes and matches genres to great effect. Go ahead and try it. It might just make your day..:-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Pepe Deluxé - Beatitude, February 28, 2011
This review is from: Beatitude (Audio CD)
While the pure fun factor isn't as high here as in their debut, Pepe Deluxe's second album, BEATITUDE, still has some partying to do before it ends. "Salami Fever" merges a rock aesthetic with the beat aesthetic wonderfully -- with some excellently cheesy classic vocodered lyrics, too. "Ask for a Kiss" is as blissful as anything Bent has done, while "Daddys' Blazin' BBQ" and "Black Cadillac" takes blues roots rock to the beat. "Lying Peacefully" is pure R&B, with an emphasis on the B part of it. But even though "A Moment in Black and White" is minimal and haunting, many of the songs here, however, are a bit more simplistic than those on SUPER SOUND. But thrumming drive of "Cruel Youth" deftly avoids this trap, as does the Burt Bacharach sweetness of "First Goodbye." The extra tracks skew more ethnic, with "Numa" heading towards the Middle East and "Vamos Muchachos" goes to Latin America. Not as energetic as their debut, but with its own high points.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay Pepe!, May 31, 2009
This review is from: Beatitude (Audio CD)
I like eclectic music. Pepe Deluxe is why. Pepe Deluxe mixes Motown samples with funk rhythms and techno beats in one song, and the next track is a dreamlike song about a cruel youth getting his comeuppance. Pepe Deluxe ranges far and wide in their search for the perfect sounds to create the ultimate audio experience, and "Beatitude" is one of their best creations to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good stuff here, December 2, 2003

This disc is, as the other reviewers have noted, funky. These two have created a fresh and dynamic bunch of tunes that will put a smile on your face. The songs are all over the place, but the transitions are smooth and surprising, just the way you want them to be. The disc has a few standouts, "Girl" amongst them. There are, however, also a few filler tracks. Oh well.
